I believe your PO is misinformed. I mail letters and cards to the UK regularly and pay regular shipping prices for them. Never been told to send signed/tracked before. And my recipients have always notified me when they have received my mail.

Yes, these are terrible times for the world. I hope things go better for you in the midterms.

The idea of removing the de minimus threshold for low value imports, surely that will create a load more work for US Customs. At a time when, allegedly, there's a drive to reduce government expenditure? The irony is strong with this one.

just played some games - using online postage system. Pretending I'm sending a comic to trump towers. initially it let me pick the normal services [standard/economy etc] I picked economy >entered comic for customs detail > selected sale > value £2 made in USA. It showed me normal price +50p handling with duties of 0. I changed the following parameters : sale > other; value £2>£20>£200; country of origin USA >chile> china. They all gave the same 0 duties due. I'm guessing theere are issues with our postal services learning the new systems

As predicted, UK training, too many variables in the USA and too much change, too often. It leads to UK chaos, and little sent to the USA, which is what they want!

Just wait unitll I have something that the Americans MUST HAVE, it happens.

Don't see why I should pay for a buyer to import into America; next they will ask for their duties to be paid on all the holiday booze and fags they bring back.

Perhaps they should move somewhere else (like Canada) and then they can buy from me.

    Thought you might be interested in this . . . . .

I made an enquiry about sending things to USA at my local post office.

    This is what followed

You pay ALL the buyers duties in advance, on sending

The amount you pay principally depend upon value, but also charges depends upon what it is and where it was made.

I asked about sending multiple items one package and sending single items with different maunfacturing origins. All the people on the counter effectivly said don't go there.

The final charge depends upon how the machine calculates it - at this point I will not mention Horizon, oooooops, i just did. What happens if you buy on-line,

    I was given an example

A £100 handbag, made in the EU, sending to America from the UK, would attract a duty of £16.50 - makes you think . . . .

Solution appears to be - on buyer request, create a special America only listing at double or triple the origional price (dont forget the extra duty on increased value). take a guess at the duty charged by the Post office.

Another factor is the customs guy in America, what happens if he does not agree with your assesment of the duty and impounds the item you have sent.

Is it possible to use shipping agents to solve this problem ?

Just thought I would brighten your day - still not selling to America
