Thread: Are ghost buyers common on here?

Default Are ghost buyers common on here?

Given this site doesn't have a "buy it now" process that takes buyers straight to payment, just how common are Ghost buyers?

This item 223132553 reportedly sold via BuyNow on 8/8. I dutifully sent the invoice via this somewhat convoluted process. It is now 8/12 and nada. The listing is closed because of BuyNow so, even if a legit buyer came along, they could not see it.

Hi, I can't answer your question as I've never had a ghost buyer, although I've had a few non-paying buyers over the years.

I'm a Silver level seller because like you don't have enough items to sell to make paying for Gold or Platinum level seller cost effective for me.

I'd suggest that you have another look at the FAQs and "How much does it cost to sell on ebid".

I've always used Platinum Listings, in the UK that costs me £0.05p per listing (in the US 5c ?), + 5% FVF on the sale price (but not on the P&P). For that small fee I get access to PayPal's integrated checkout and to me, just as importantly, a photo in the search results. I think that would solve your problem with ghost buyers and might help your sales as well.

    I'm a lifetime Platinum member.

The site doesn't get enough traffic and, more importantly, most of the stuff being sold, including what I listed, is rather ancient. All working, just not sexy or new. Most of the stuff has been listed for over a year with lots of views, just no sales. I suspect the views are people who have the exact same things to sell and want to know what they are "worth."

I didn't list things here to "make money." They are functional things I no longer needed so I listed them cheap. Most/many of the listings I took down because I ran into people or projects that needed them quite by accident.

    Hi SeasonedGeek!

I think the "ghostbuyer" is someone that purchases from outisde and not signed in with an account.

I get buyers who "purchase" an item and never pays.
You send them two invoices ( time space in between sending )
and then you mark them as unpaid.

I do think that some of the buyers don't understand how this site works. ( understandably )

eBid doesn't not have the normal "shopping carts" where you can add to the cart or delete the item from the cart.
Once it is in the cart - it's "needs" to be paid, even if the shopper is "window shopping".
It's a pain, but just mark it unpaid and request for your fee.

    ( I had another sale )
