it is free to sell and buy, basic selling option is free, and there are also enhanced selling options gallery, front page etc, which you would be charged for.

Hi Snitch
If ebid had a good reputation, that it was well worth listing here, then i would have no qualms about paying the fee. However, EVERYONE who has said they have listed stuff here have not had a single sale.
I have no intention of paying money to something that has such a bad reputation, however I would have listed a few things to see for myself (I never take others word for things if I can research for myself) if there had been a fairer way of doing so.
eBid does not have a bad reputation. Many peopel from eBay are coming here.Originally Posted by iron*lion*zion
As i and other eBidders will tell you, sales are made. Thouands of auction closer and start each day sucdcessfully. If you take the time to browse and watch auctions in stead of criticising then you will see they all start with a high price so you dont see bids on the item as last minute bid will take place therefore the final bid would be as high on any other auction website including eBid. I have seen many auctions starting low and ending high. You are looking at eBay and seeing most auctions start low, its not the same here.
It is supposed to be FREE???!!!
Big splash on the front page....FREE!!!!!
OK, if you want the extras you pay, fair enough, but I have just heard from a mate that there are now some hefty FEEs for listing if you are a new seller.
Security Subscription, don't remember seeing that one before?!
7 Days Security Subscription £0.99
30 Days Security Subscription £2.49
90 Days Security Subscription £6.99
365 Days Security Subscription £26.99
Lifetime Security Subscription £44.99
Also, whats the deal with preventing new registrations on the forums? Is that so new users cannot sign up and have a good moan at the new FEEs?
My mate decided to join on my recommendation, but now he's not going to bother with the site as it is not actually FREE at all. If he only wanted to sell the ocassional item, its a bit much.
Anyone?

Hi
Sorry, I have hit a nerve. Didnt mean to do that. I am eager to try to sell here as it is the only other alternative to ebay. But I have heard little about this place, mainly I guess because most people haven't heard of it at all, and the ONLY thing I have heard is that you wont sell a thing on here. I can only go by what I have heard and therefore that is the reputation that I have a perception of. It is unfortunate, but true.
I dont have time to wait out auctions here. I have dug into it a bit and so far it hasnt looked good.
The reason I am clamouring is because i think that (and I have stated this a few times now) there is great potential for another auction site, but that potential will be lost if people like myself are put off right at the very beginning.
But I could be wrong! There might be many that are still happy to pay a registration fee upfront and that will be good.
I did notice that US sellers are encouraged to join by having the lifetime subscription fee waived...pity this is not being done for us UK sellers! Smacks of unfairness to me, but maybe its entirely right and proper.
Well £44.99 if you think about it is dirt cheap for a lifetime of free listing, and no FVF’s etc. If you’re a business it’s a tiny, tiny outlay. If you do sell something the profit is all yours. Sell a £100 item with say £20 profit in it and that’s what you will get £20 profit. Do the same on ebay and after ALL the fees you will be lucky to see £4.00 profit. It’s a no brainer.
Ebay are shooting themselves in the foot, because of the ever increasing fees you can mostly buy cheaper off ebay. Sooner or later the punters will latch on and look elsewhere. This site is the BEST alternative to ebay that I’ve seen and I’m going to be here when the punters start look elsewhere for a bargain. Maybe you should take a good look at your profit margin from sales at ebay. I’d rather sell one item and make £20 than sell 5 items to make the same amount.
P.S you haven’t touched a nerve, you’re just not seeing it from a business point of view. Where else could you promote your sales for a lifetime for £44.99?
P.P.S 4819 new members in the last 30 days, doesn't that tell you something?

Like I said earlier. IF your business could be promoted from ebid then I would certainly think £44 were fine. But I dont know anyone apart from a few on ebay who have EVER heard of ebid...yet.
I also do searches on google for various things and invariably ebay comes up in those searches but I have never seen ebid come up.
I dont mind forking out £44, and I often do when I do specialist markets or what have you, but I KNOW that I am going to be making a lot of money doing that. I dont KNOW that I am going to be making any money back on that. So I dont think that is good business sense.
I also ensure that the price I ask for on ebay covers all FVF, listing fees etc so that I make sure I do make a good profit. I am not trying to convince you all of ebay, I am trying to say that ebid may not be going the right way to lure new sellers to the site. But maybe there are enough already?
