Well, I far prefer here too, but i'm on "Holiday" mode at the moment due to moving house and all my stuff being in storage.
But I did for the month of December, sell a fair few items on ebay as they had introduced their no fee's policy. Didn't have to wait to be paid.
Now since the 28th January my ebay payments have been suspended until I provide certain ID, of which I only have a passport (expired) which they won't accept. Tried their customer service, who basically read from a script and was no help, repeating that I needed to provide said ID. I've tried uploading various times, Including Expired Passport (must be not expired, even though an expired one is still a legally valid document in the UK), Birth certificate, Current utility bill (as suggested on their help forum. All to no avail.
i can't even use the funds to purchase things on there.
So for those who do sell on there these days, make sure you have valid ID, otherwise you'll hid the brick wall like I have if they decide to suspend your payments.

Oct 2024: zero fees for private sellers. Though I don''t recall anyone campaigning for that, and while 13.2% + 30p final value fee had been rather steep, every couple of weeks there was an 80% off offer, so 2.6% + 30p. But beware the Greeks bearing gifts. Those who'd followed the ebay CEO's presentation to shareholders knew that there were more changes to come, before the end of Q1 2025.

Q4 2024 (I think): introduction of Simple Delivery in some categories (in particular, Clothing, I guess to compete with Vinted). SD means ebay takes charge of delivery and is able no doubt to negotiate bulk rates and cream off profit.

Feb 2025: payment hold until tracked postage shows delivered (which it too often doesn't) or 14 days. And BUYER fees, of 4% + 75p. Making it especially difficult for low value items. Includes a lot of mine, and I don't doubt postcard sellers, stamp collectors, little gaming model makers, knitters and others will be hard hit.

Before end Q1 (not yet confirmed): SD will be mandatory. This is a killer for those of us who rely on collection from our homes. No way I'm going to run around to a distant parcel shop with a £5 parcel instead of having my nice postie collect it from my enclosed porch (where I left it for him the night before).

The ebay community forums have gone ballistic over these changes.

It's a huge opportunity for Ebid.

The really interesting thing about all of this and the previous revisions is that eBay is effectivly the seller of goods supplied to them by suppliers who will post the goods out to eBay buyers.

So if there is an injury or death caused by defective goods a buyer would take eBay to court.

    why ?

You have selected goods out of eBays catalogue

You have agreed to eBay T's&C's in buying

You pay eBay for the goods

You pay eBay a premium to buy the goods

You notify eBays supplier where to send the goods

If the goods do not arrive or are defective you have a dispute with eBay not the Buyer

    eBay is effectivly the seller.

From a sellers perspective, the less control they have over the sale, for example sending restrictions and payment, the greater the ability the seller has to say 'I am only supplying goods, as described, to eBay for them to onward sell'.

    May prove interesting one day?

May prove interesting one day, indeed. Though you can bet that if it happens, ebay will have a boatload of high end lawyers defending them, just like the Post Office.

Mandated Simple Delivery. Originally it was up to the buyer to choose between RM and Evri, totally outside the control of the seller. Unsurprisingly, there's been a huge outcry about that. I believe ebay are backpedalling a little (pretty amazing, they normally steam roller everything). I'm not up to date, I've been banned from their forums for a week. Yay! Go me! [cheerleaders with pompoms!]. I think it may be possible to specify RM only, but not with collection from your home. Then you have the extra hassle of going to the RM site and booking the free collection.

All much much easier with eBid. It's almost as if sellers here are human beings!

I stopped selling there last November, but I'm still watching the fireworks over their latest raft of restrictions. Obay is certainly getting more enthusiastic about putting payment holds on sellers and now that they're using held funds as a revenue stream, it's only going to get worse IMO.

I've read several times about sellers who are suddenly required to re-verify their identity with photo I.D and have been told that either a valid drivers licence or passport is the only way to do this because those are the only acceptable forms of photo I.D.. But somewhere in the'small print' is a list of other documents that are equally valid but which they don't like to tell you about. From what I've read your best bet is to phone "CS" early in the morning and hopefully get through to Ireland. Good luck.

    From the latest eBay T's & C's

'eBay is not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. The contract for the sale is directly between buyer and seller. eBay is not a party to the transaction and is not a traditional auctioneer. Unless through limited programmes such as eBay Authenticity Guarantee, eBay does not have possession of anything listed or sold through eBay.'

I don't that is enough to get them out of this one

A determined person or their estate, or more likely their lawyers, that has suffered major injury or death, is unlikely to persue the small supplier with limited funds, far more likely to receive compensation if they go for the corpration. The office may be in London or Germany but the business is where the servers are, probably the States. Huge payouts loome.

    Edit . . . . . time passes . . . .

I knew if I looked long enough i would find it buried in the T's & C's.

'Some jurisdictions do not allow the disclaimer of warranties or exclusion of damages, so such disclaimers and exclusions may not apply to you. This is especially so if you are a consumer.' You cannot exclude injury or death claims from faulty goods in the UK.

UK consumers can breath again, those consumers in the States could cite uk / EU consumer potections in any case they bring

    Further note from the T's & C's

'Any claim, dispute or matter arising under or in connection with this User Agreement shall be governed and construed in all respects by the laws of England and Wales. You and eBay both agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.'

Double talk if ever I read it, this bit 'You and eBay both agree to submit to the NON-EXCLUSIVE jurisdiction of the English courts' leaves the door open for US legal action. Could be worse, imagine if you were Scottish, or from Northern Ireland (now there is a can of consumer worms)

So that's where I went wrong, I originally phoned in the evening.
Just off the phone and got someone in Ireland this time, very helpful, they contacted the relevant department themselves to see why I was getting nowhere, and got them to manually check rather than it being automated check.
She said it should be fine and to give it about 24 hours and my payments should be active again.
Hurrah for common sense ans the intervention of an actual person rather than a computer program.
    Fingers crossed

Today the buyer protection fee was added to the postcards and stamps categories for private sellers on the other place.

It adds around 80p to the average price of a postcard I sell on there, so its now cheaper for my customers to buy on here.

Every single reciept Ive sent out for the last year has advertised I'm on here as well, not many have bothered to take a look though at least not so far.

Hopefully this will now change as I'm expecting sales on the other place to decline rapidly..and I'm expecting to list a lot more on here.

I have purchased a few items last week over on the bay and guess which courier has been selected for every item yep Evri, one item should have been delivered 6 days ago and tracking shows evri have not picked it up from the drop off point, four other items from different sellers and i am getting emails each day telling me there is a delay in the delivery of my items and that they will be delivered 24 hours later, What a **** show over there, I'm done purchasing anything over there at least for now, a seller i regularly buy from always used RM collection from doorstep now is forced to use evri and this has now killed our relationship oh and you can't combine postage anymore over there so each item has to be posted separately with its own postage label. I hope they go the same way as ToysRus

So, as a buyer, you weren't even given the choice between Evri and RM? I thought the way it was planned (?) to work was that sellers would offer both unless they excluded one in their preferences.

I feel it would be worth messaging your sellers and asking why you couldn't choose RM, had they excluded it, and how unhappy you are. And post your experiences in the community forums there, which in recent years ebay have tried to make less visible -- the link used to be at the top of the home page (a bit like eBid, or any other site proud of its community!), but they moved it to the bottom, in small grey print.

Don't just quietly leave. Contact sellers, post in the forums. Sellers there need to understand why their sales are plummeting, so they're motivated to look elsewhere. It's probably unwise to mention a specific alternative in your very first post, or the mods there may remove it quickly.
