Red face Why Did I Return To eBid (if anyone is interested)

I returned to eBid because this little part of the web is one of the few places out there with its core values still in place trying to genuinely serve its customer base.

It’s not perfect here, but when I sell something my iPhone or iWatch pings to let me know I have a sale or an offer, I can send an invoice, amend combined shipping cost, I can send items by the carrier I choose, I get paid immediately before I send the item, & I am not continually bombarded with terms & condition changes that almost carry the death penalty if you do not follow them.

All very basic, but this is all I want from an auction site that charges a very fair price for the services it offers, which is worth its weight in gold.

    Hi Pelham,
Spot on! All other sites constantly move goalposts/behave as though every listing belongs to them and they make decisions regardless of seller rights/constantly look to load cost on sellers whilst taking endless fees.
It all gets very depressing to always be on the sharp end of any transaction, but the greedy takers just keep on.
eBid is the only honest site going.

I know that I was here and then took a break and was selling on other sites.

There were some changes that I wasn't going to work with, especially with all the changes that took place on eBay.

I cam back, that it has the basic and to pay for setting a website is expensive.
I think at the time that $15/mth was the cheapest and no more than 200 items.

At least here, you can communicate with the buyer and set up things, whether a grouping or giving discounts or ? and you don't get docked for that type of customer service.

Yes, there needs to some very simple improvements here, especially the "cart".
That to me is where you get a lot of non-payment. Since it's not a normal shopping cart that you can add and remove items from that the new buyers don't know that they get penalized for non-payment even if they are testing the site.

Also, this is nice that you have a marketplace that if a buyer see your items will hopefully check the other items in the marketplace. With your own website, you have to really need more promotions for your site only. Yes, you have to promote yourself here, but hopefully the chances are that the ones that come to see your items also see that they are other sellers here.

i also came back to try ebid again after i started to find ebay changed catergories on items like festoon bulbs i found i hadnt sold any for some time so i though why not when i checked the advert was right nothing wrong there so i though why cant i be selling any. Then i looked a where ebay was listing them having not touched the advert for some time i checked where EBAY HAD LISTED THEM(HEADLIGHT BULBS) SO EBAY HAD CHANGED THE ITEM LOCATION TO SOMEWHERE YOU WOULDNT LOOK FOR THE BULBS. AS FESTOON BULBS ARE INTERIOR BULBS NOT HEADLIGHT BULD.
also as i was selling a few items a day this new postage scan the QR code is no good to me as how do you tell what item is for what person. also over the last few days since i got an email from them saying make your advert stand out over the others i just SOLD 1 ITEM weird that.So nowi think its time to look at closing my ebay accounts down after 20 years of them telling me what i can and cant do. i use to do markets for a living selling tools and shows all over the country but 4 HERNIAS put a stop to that so i went onto ebay that was good at the time but now they dont seem to care about the sellers.

But the listing does belong to them, have you not noticed.

They own the pictures, your selling name, they take the money and then pay you, they set the postage and direct you to their preferred shippers. Buyers do not have a dispute with you when there are problems, they are with eBay.

Effectivly eBay are doing their best to be a cataloge store like argos, amazon, a supermarket etc etc.

You are not an independent seller using the eBay platform, you are a supplier to eBay, like it or not.

Time to wake up to the idea that eBay thinks 'you are not worth it'. If you are already here I guess you already have, so don't moan about them as they are what they are.

Like many others, I have returned to Ebid after Ebay finally pushed it too far with Buyer Protection Fees and Simple Delivery. And in the 3 months I've been back, I've only sold 9 items but you know what, despite Ebay wanting me to switch to a business (Business Sellers are not subject to compulsory Simple Delivery, Yet!)which I think is the reasoning behind this move. I also note that they dare not even hint at going down this route on their main American site.
Anyway, as said, I've sold less in 3 months than a normal week on Ebay, but I don't care. I'm clearing 50+ years of collecting and accumulating 'stuff' along with our kids stuff, which they no longer want, and inherited items which I think other people may appreciate more! So I'm not in a rush, I don't rely on the money for living, in fact I used to spend a lot of earned money buying on Ebay (which I no longer do)
The 'vibe' I get from Ebid is more relaxed and very reminiscent of how it was on Ebay 10 years ago or so, which is a GOOD thing! I will continue to list, and the items listed can stay in the loft or the garage until they sell or I go to a car boot.
Quite a few of the items have sold to new members which I hope indicates that the traffic on this site is increasing, I have also emailed some of my regular buyers on Ebay, through the message service asking them to try this site, we'll see if that works!
All in all, I'm happy to be here, just want a few more sales!

I gave up with *bay on 1st February 2008 and came here to eBid and I have never looked back and will stay with eBid. It's not perfect, then, what is these days? I even tried to sell on *tsy but they are turning out to be like *bay and I gave up there too. I'm staying right here.

I didn't start on obay until '12 and wondered what was going-on when they put FVF on P&P in '13. I looked around for another site to sell on and came here.

I did look at *tsy but decided against it when, with a background in accounts and stats., I still couldn't work out exactly what I would pay them if I sold a £10 item. I think they were set up by ebay solely to deflect any suggestions that obay had a monopoly in the Collectables market and believe that their CEO is still an ex-obay exec. given the job to fleece their sellers even more efficiently than ebay does.

I struggled on with obay, selling less and less each year, until 2024 when the current round of restrictions and money grabbing were announced and I won't be going back again.

I'm staying here and have no plans to try any of the other sites I've looked at. As you say "nothing is perfect", but the others all seem to be adopting the same tactics and following the giant sites down the same road. In a few years they'll probably all look much the same as each other. Hopefully Ebid will then stand-out from the crowd and get the recognition and support it deserves.

I've sold on multiple different sites, mostly long vanished but now only have listings here.
Sellers arriving here is great but we need more traffic - more buyers. Obviously eBid do not have the finance to mount big advertising campaigns (and when Tazbar did it, it was the beginning of the end). So we all need to do our bit. TELL PEOPLE!
