HAT PATTERN FOR LABOUR WARD
Using double knitting wool and 3 1/4mm needles cast on 70(78) stitches and work single rib for 8(10)cm, ending with a ws row.
Next Row. Rib to end inc 3(1) sts evenly across row. 73(79) stitches
Change to 4mm needles and proceed as follows:-
1st Row: K1,* p2, k4, rep from * to end
2nd Row: * p4, k2, rep from * to last st, p1.
1st and 2nd rows set pattern.
Keeping continuity of patt as set (throughout) continue until hat measures13(14)cm ending with a ws row.
Shape Crown.
1st Row: K1, * p2, k2 tog, k2, rep from * to end. 61(66)sts.
2nd Row: * p3, k2, rep from * to last st, pl.
3rd Row: k1, * p2, k2tog, k1,rep from * to end, 49(53)sts.
4th Row: * p2, k2, rep from * to Last st,p1.
5th Row: K1, * p2, k2tog, rep from * to end. 37(40) sts.
6th Row: * p1, k2, rep from * to last st,p1.
7th Row: k1, * p2tog, k1, rep from * to end. 25(27)sts.
8th Row: * p1, Kl<rep from * to last st, pl.
9th Row: K1, * k2tog, rep from * to end. 13(14)sts.
10th Row: (p2tog) 6 (7) times, p1 (0). 7(7) sts.
Break off yarn, thread yarn through remaining sts, draw up and fasten off.
TO MAKE UP
Join back seam reversing sewing for turn back.
