To end on a more serious note. As a lad I used always to enjoy St David's Day. We had a whole school eisteddfod in the morning, in both languages, and the best part of all was the afternoon - we were given that off! That's the best way to inculcate a knowledge of what happens and when in a population. A simple incentive is all that is needed.

When I came here I was very surprised to find that there was no celebration at all. However, a child would be allowed a whole day off, several times, to go pea-picking with mum.
