Default Any USA Glass Collectors Out There?? (Help with bowl I.D please).

Before listing this piece on ebid I'd like to I.D it correctly. I think I've narrowed it down to Fenton or Northwood Glass, probably 20's / 30's. Both made similar shapes and without any markings I'm at a loss as I know very little about N. American Glass.

It's iridescent Uranium glass and measures 3 3/8 inches across the base and roughly 7 inches across the rim.

    Any help appreciated.

Thanks for replying fleabag. Although you may well think that with the help of some good books the info. I'm seeking would be easy to find, sadly it isn't that easy. "Good books" on the subject often aren't that easy to find, the better they are the more they cost and when bought can still answer hundreds of questions I.D-ing hundreds of pieces, but not the exact one in question. That's my experience of buying books on UK and European glass.

It's even worse when you add to that, that glass collectors / authors are quite insular and very specialised. UK authors might mention US glass in passing and vice-versa. The only US book I have on the subject has photos of several quite common pieces of British glass, the only attribution given is "Might be European".

I am as guilty of this as anyone else, I could write pages about A.H. Williamson and some of the more obscure Dressing Table Sets. But can't tell the difference between common pieces made by well known US companies like Fenton, Northwood or US Glass without hours of searching on-line. Enjoyable though this can be, it is a distraction when I only want to list for sale reasonably accurately.

I have listed the bowl as Fenton 1920s - 30s. Information I gleaned from a US website devoted to collecting "Stretch Glass", something I'd never heard of and don't think is collected or was ever produced in the UK. It was the only US site I could find with a reasonably concise list of patterns by different US companies. Hopefully a collector of US glass will get in touch if I am miss-representing the piece.

Have you tried searching for "Vaseline Glass"? That's the name it usually goes by on this side of the pond

Hi Shes, hope all is well with you. How are you getting along with the voles?

Yes, I did -- more confusion as the Stretch Glass Collectors use Vaseline not only in place of "Uranium" but also as the colour of some pieces. As always with popular shapes several companies made very similar designs at the same time, mostly without signatures. Eventually It came down to tossing a coin between Fenton or Northwood. Probably only a really pedantic collector would know if I guessed right!!

Yes, it does make things difficult for us to ID mass produced, unmarked items and you are correct: "Probably only a really pedantic collector would know if I guessed right!!" LOL!!!

After not being able to tend to my gardens last summer, the voles are still out there Fortunately, a friend told me how he keeps voles out of his veggie garden - he plants castor beans among his other plants and as they are poisonous, it keeps the voles away. Years ago I had some "appear" in my yard and I keep several growing as I like the look of them. Hopefully, I can find some seeds and will plant them in my flower garden. They grow really tall, but by the time they get huge, my lilies will be done flowering and not need so much sun.
