I noticed that ebid.net is now behind Cloudflare, the popular abuse prevention service. Essentially ebid.net is now connecting to Cloudflare, and Cloudflare then connects to the ebid servers after verifying that the connection is not abusive. I guess it's a necessary evil, because Cloudflare can in some cases prevent legitimate bots (like search engines, or meta shopping services) from connecting to the site.
This was probably some customized DDoS attack, where they look for slow areas of the site and then have thousands of page views per second on those pages, which is enough to over load the site. If you go any forum site, even ones like this one now, and you reload the page 100 times in a second (if you have a special browser that lets you do it), it'll cause the site to stop responding usually.
Whatever makes you think it's kids! These days it's big business, holding a site to ransom.
I view this attack very positively. Ebid is now big enough for someone to be worried about it. Perhaps the attack was funded by another well known auction site? Not mentioning any names, of course!
ps: if you're using TalkTalk, you must be seriously nuts!
