Thread: Bidding or Buying items listed in another currency

  1. #1

Default Bidding or Buying items listed in another currency

Does anyone find it difficult and / or confusing to buy or bid on items listed by a seller from another country? Here on eBid the BIN or bid is in the seller's currency with the conversion off to the side in small numerals. Buying multiples requires some calculation on the purchaser's part before they actually make the buy or bid.

If I buy something on the other sites that I have used, the website converts to my currency either with a the purchase of a single item or by putting multiple items in a basket.

No I also don't find it difficult and confusing.

In fact if I look at any of your stores (list, gallery, or showroom view) then your prices are displayed in pounds sterling as I am in England.

Yes, if I look at a seller's listings in list, gallery, or showroom mode, I see the bigger picture in my currency. If I click on an individual listing, then I'm looking at the seller's currency.

It seems to me that this was changed when eBid went through the big revamp to support mobile apps, but I could be wrong about that.

The real question is how a buyer who is new to eBid would perceive it, but that's a question I can't know the answer to.

I don't find it confusing when looking at a listing, since the potential buyers currency is shown next to the sellers currency once you're within a listing. It's even easy to read the digits of both currencies on the mobile view. Just for the heck of it, I showed your listing to OH and asked him if he could figure out how much the item and shipping were---figured I would ask him because he's entirely gormless online. He managed to grasp the prices after a quick glance so that bodes well for pretty much anyone

Thank you all for the comments. It's good to hear that you are feeling positive about this feature.

Me, I dislike buying or bidding in a currency other than Canadian.

Just my opinion. That said, "it is what it is", (an overused expression, but I can't think of any other way to say what I mean). If a person doesn't like features, they can always move along.

No, I'm not going anywhere. There are thousands of items around this house to list and to donate to charity. I'll keep at the listing.

I do hope that eBid management is able to roll out the changes soon, as I hope that there won't be manual revisions required to categories on existing listings. It would be nice to see what the result of the revamp looks like.

    That's not a complaint. Just a hope.

As for the currency, eBid's system won't stop me from bidding or buying here if I want something from a seller here.
