Never seen swallows this close before. I think they were posing for me.

are the swallows or house martins, we had a nest in the corner of the apex this year, the last rain storm brought it down, they are now rebuilding

I am told that swallows have brown necks. I am no good at identifying birds, I can tell the difference between a seagull and an ostrich.

What lovely pictures
They look like Barn Swallows, (a bird that we have here in Alberta). Barn Swallows have the brown on head and neck and they nest on human structures.

They are definitely what is normally called Swallows. The full name is Barn Swallow so you are right, Marie. They are the same.
We have Barn Swallows, Tree Swallows, Cliff Swallows and other kinds of swallows here. They are related to Purple Martins, which aren't as common. We saw Purple Martins at the Ellis Bird Farm, which is near to Lacombe, Alberta. I can't say that I know much about birds, but do like to go on back roads trips with dear husband looking for kinds that I I haven't seen yet.

I think Barn Swallow is right. They were nesting above a shop in Taebaek, east coast South Korea, where I was touring the streets looking for something that looked vaguely edible.
(I ended up in a restaurant where they said they could do fried beef. When it came the variety of beef was one without horns, a curly tail, and says "oink". Fly back to London on Monday, and looking forward to eating again)
