When I download my listings, I get an unformatted txt file, complete with all of the HTML coding for each listing page. It is completely useless. Is there a glitch in the download function, or am I doing something wrong?

I had the same problem as you some years ago and this is the advice I was given at the time:
"If you import it to either Excel,(or Open Office Calc) you can choose what is imported.
They work pretty much the same,
in Excel open a new spreadsheet, click on Data - choose Import external data - import data, a box will come up "Choose data source", find your exported listings & click open,
You'll get the text import wizard
step 1 Choose Delimited - click next,
step 2 choose Tab - click next
in step 3 you'll see 4 checkboxes to choose the column data format
underneath that is Data preview, which shows
all the info in columns with the heading General.
Work through the column headings choosing the Do not import (skip) option for all of them except the auction title (column 5) leave that as General - Click Finish
you then have the option of putting the data in an existing worksheet or creating a new one, click OK & your auction titles will be listed for you."
