Default [UK] TV licence iPlayer rules come into force

All iPlayer users must now own a TV licence, regardless of whether or not they watch programmes live.
The new rules, which will close the so-called "iPlayer loophole", came into effect on Thursday morning.
Previously, only viewers who were watching shows as they were being broadcast required a licence.
That meant it was legal to watch content after broadcast via the catch-up service without paying the annual £145.50 fee.

I don't understand why the UK has this tv tax. Where does the money go?? We don't have this license/tax in the US, but we do have PBS, the public broadcasting service station which produces the most wonderful shows......funded by donations from the public.
    Ta-Ta for now!

It all goes to the BBC Maj, even if you don't watch the BBC.

The tv licencing site says iplayer on mobile devices are not covered if you live away from home. Sharn has been living away from home for months since she moved here...her registered address doesn't have a licence so she is not covered.

Well - no wonder they have all the money they do. What a sweet set up for them.

it's going to be a bit off a mess then moony, does that mean you could watch a normal TV though in someone else's home on a normal set.

It is the householder's responsibility to have a licence and you would be watching their TV...so you would ne OK. The new rule applies to iplayer esp on mobile devices including tablets and laptops

So she can watch the TV set at your house but can't watch it on a mobile device if she sits outside, how bleerdy stupid is that just because she is down as living with her Mum. what a shame, what are you going to do?
