Thread: To Make or Not Make an Offer... That is the question...

Thank you, deanosauer72 - much to think about.

I agree that there is no free lunch - the buyer must be aware in these times that a deal is indeed the result of the item being priced high to begin with. I hate games, but I do like the idea of using it to clear out things that simply don't move, for whatever reason.

    You make good points, IMHO.

Deanosaur makes so many good points. I have never been an advocate for MAO. If you price fairly there should be no need to offer MAO. It gives the impression of being a chancer. If someone is mug enough to pay the full price so be it. If you are prepared to accept less why not start at the price you are prepared to accept.

Yes, Tony - that clears it up for me. I decided to keep the MAO in mind as Deanosauer mentioned for possible items that are not moving after a very long time. Thank you both.

    Agree with Mel.

I asked this same question a while back, but decided the only way to really find out whether or not MaO worked was to test it out on a few new listings. I can't say it's made a difference in sales, at least for me, though as the kids say, your mileage may vary.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

    How nice.

I hope it has worked for somebody after all the fuss that was made by some getting eBid to add it. Time and effort expended that could have been better used fixing the multitude of bugs on the site.

I don't have MAO on any of my items, but someone recently e-mailed me and made one.
I made a counter-offer, halfway between my asking price and his first amount, and he accepted it.

Result: I made a sale of something that had been hanging around for ages, he got a bargain, and we're both happy.

Even without the official MAO set-up, people are free to make an offer - that's fine. How you respond depends on the item, how much you want to move it, and how close to the asking price the offer is.

eBid messed up the require immediate payment, they made it to where a seller has to use it on all their listings or not at all. It needed to be added to the listing form so the seller could tick a box to use it only on the listing they wanted.

Are you referring to present or past tense? It only shows if ticked, unless I am misunderstanding you.

Opps my bad AddyGirl, I meant immediate payment option & have corrected the post. LOL that was suppose to be a pm message to another user but so tired from working 2 days straight I posted it in the wrong box.
