Thread: Sarge, help with tooth please

  1. #1

Default Sarge, help with tooth please

Just back from the dentist and had an X ray and two choices, either loose the tooth or take the nerve out, does root canal really hurt, it's right at the front at the bottom and i don't want to be toothless, but with a swollen Liver at the moment, my hair falling out and itching to death I haven't got much going for me at the moment, just waiting for an arm or leg to fall off next

If you don't mind a reply from someone other than Sarge. No it doesn't hurt as long as you've had an anesthetic (it's not very different from having a filling). I find the worst part is being numb for hours afterward and dribbling tea down my chin

Awww poor Private Buttons. I would go for root canal any time rather than having to lose a tooth. It's not much worse than having a filling just a bit more drilling and fiddly as they have to insert a little post to support the tooth. You shouldn't feel anything if they numb you up properly.

I had a root canal done on my top front tooth and it was kinda no different than having a tooth drilled and filled - I don't remember having a post inserted, in fact, I'm sure I didn't. My tooth lasted for about 15 years and in that time, it was getting darker and darker (cause the tooth is dead and not getting any nourishment) - eventually it got quite brittle and snapped off and I ended up with a drilled in ceramic tooth with a metal peg for support.

Thank you Shabbs, i needed a hug.
And thank you to everyone, it came as a shock as it doesn't ache or anything it's just when i brush it or touch the gum I could hit the roof with pain, I thought it was because i could not get any oraldene as that normally sorts out any problem I have with a sore mouth etc My poor toofName: teeth-brushing-smiley.gif

Jan they usually insert a little post with root canal treatment if you are having it crowned afterwards. Buttons may not need that though if it is a front tooth as it's usually the back ones that need the crown protection for chewing.

Just after my first post I stupidly though I would go and walk to asda seeing as i was all still ready for out, I barley made it back and when i did had to rest up for a few mins and fell asleep till 8 pm with no heating on, I am now frozen and sore but I did get some nice new socks with soft tops.
