A few years ago there was a party at the hall I'm caretaker of on the last Saturday in March, the time when clocks always go forward, everyone is suppose to be out of the hall by 11.45pm (they rarely are) they were still in hall after midnight, the lady who'd hired the hall came and asked me if they could have another hour as the clocks had gone forward, I said no, they don't officially go forward until 2.00am, and thought nice try.![]()

I was staying in a hotel in Barcelona many years before Spain entered the Common Market. I was due to fly home two days later and on checking the flight times, discovered that the return flight was to take an hour less than the flight out. There were not many possible explanations, so I went to the reception desk and asked if their clocks were to be altered that weekend. They were puzzled and did not know so called the manager.
I explained, and he told me that this was something that happened in Common Market countries but never in Spain. I became insistent that he check and suggested he call the local police. Others who were waiting to speak to him were grumbling: "Typical! There's always one! Flipping nuisance! etc"
Eventually he succumbed and 'phoned the police. There was a sudden eruption of frenzied activity as manager and staff produced a notice and ran around the hotel sticking copies on doorways, on the lifts and everywhere they could think of!! I walked off laughing to myself...
Or 1.00 AM.
In the UK the clocks go forward 1 hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March, and back 1 hour at 2am on the last Sunday in October.
The period when the clocks are 1 hour ahead is called British Summer Time (BST). There's more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings (sometimes called Daylight Saving Time).
When the clocks go back, the UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
