It's sad that you missed out on building sandcastles with a bucket & spade .... decorating them with shells, making a moat around them & filling them with sea water.
Or getting "buried" vertically up to your neck in the sand and a photo taken of you!

First recollection ever of a beach was in Singapore I was screaming my head off for my dad to swim out and get me one of those little black boats floating some way out in the water, I now know why he would not get me one
