Thread: Have you defected from ebay

Default Have you defected from ebay

Hello and welcome if you have decided that you have had enough on eBay

My name is Paul and traded on eBay as we-have-tools, I closed my store on the 30th September 2014 and will probably be offline on the 1st October, I am letting my listings run to the death then I will be spending my time promoting eBid and my Store here.

I think we can make this as popular as eBay if we all stick together and get the word out that it exists, due to the free listings and only 2% FVF there is a very lot we can do to achieve this.

What we need is a plan of attack and I can start the ball rolling.

    1. What I have done is contacted all my buyers to let them know i am now selling here on eBid and the prices are 10% less ( no FVF or Listing fee ) and your still in pocket, all your customer email addresses are available in either your Item Has Sold email or you can get them in bulk from Paypal.

Please add to this thred with any more ideas, we have been saying for a long time about leaving Feebay so its here, your chance to do it.

One point thats not mentioned very much, is the thousands of accounts opened on ebid that have never been used, i have searched for instance the sellers and buyers user names who i have come across when i was trading on feebay, its surprising how many of them have unused accounts here,

ebid could actively approach them say from within the news letter ( i know you already do to a certain extent ) maybe a more targeted campaign

    just a idea !

the news letter could have a dedicated paragraph along the lines of,-

Hello to are long absent members, with the winter season approaching and christmas not too far away , why not try listing on ebid ,with the festive season approaching its on of the busiest times here on ebid,

so if you have a account that you have never used heres the festive deal if you have a seller account here on ebid never been used , we will for one month treat that account as a seller+ account , you will have all the benefits of a seller + account free for one month , to get you going,

    some thing along them lines,

with the gritty detail ie what happens after the month is up eg you could offer a super duper deal to anyone who takes up the trial with a discounted seller + account.

    thanks.

there is a never ending debate on ebid about advertising, my views i think are well known on this subject,

my suggestion above would target thousands of potential sellers and some buyers, without any cost of advertising, it would be aimed at a audience who have shown a interest in ebid but for what ever reason have not gone further than opening a account, of course the main aim is to get them to become established sellers, the carrot element , could inject some cash ebids way with a greater diversity of items available to buy on ebid.

‘I warn you now, it is very hard here but we can make this as popular as eBay if we all stick together and get the word out that it exists, due to the free listings and only 2% FVF there is not enough money in the pot to do any real advertising so its really down to us.’

With respect to OP, although the overall size of the eBid promotions budget will be affected by low fees, it is incorrect to paint the picture that eBid hardly does any advertising. Google Shopping is a form of advertising.

I would have thought that the constant drip feed of incorrect comments on the Forum about eBid not advertising runs the risk of turning potential sellers away from eBid.

Sorry to spoil the party but if any UK eBid member thinks that they can send unsolicited messages to former customers without their prior permission, they will be in breach of the UK’s Data Protection legislation and will be committing an offence in law. Business sellers should be registered with the Office of the Information Commissioner and should work within the rules established by the Data Protection legislation.

"The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 cover the sending of email marketing. This legislation says that organisations must only send marketing emails to individuals if you have agreed to receive them, except where there is a clearly defined customer relationship. "

the op is not suggesting or doing any thing illegal as far as i can see,

    120. Although organisations can generally only send marketing texts
or emails with specific consent, there is an exception to this
rule for existing customers, known as the ‘soft opt-in’. This
means organisations can send marketing texts or emails if:
 they have obtained the contact details in the course of a
sale (or negotiations for a sale) of a product or service to
    that person;
 they are only marketing their own similar products or
    services; and
 they gave the person a simple opportunity to refuse or opt
out of the marketing, both when first collecting the details
and in every message after that

I would say that any seller ,as in this case who offers and sells goods new goods in this case, would also have to have as part of any contract a return policy and or guarantee that can be serviced by the seller, he or she is obliged under the distance selling laws to offer a way of servicing a contract,

as the op has stopped trading at one venue and is trading at another he is obliged to provide his place of business to existing customers, to at the very least service any obligations he already has, so even in a non marketing sense he can tell existing customers were he can be contacted
