They are in Norfolk, mainly to the east of Norwich, which is in East Anglia.
They are man-made, the flooded remains of old peat diggings (peat for fuel), and are now full of birds and animals, a nature reserve.

Wow, love the photos, so peaceful and the waterfront is beautiful. If I ever get back to the UK, I'm adding this one to my list.
