    Default No sales please, its Easter Day!

    I was going through the supermarket this afternoon buying fruit and bread and thought it was unusually busy.

    It was only afterwards I recalled a law for UK that supermarkets have to be closed on Easter Day. I think it was a sop to religion about Sunday opening.

    East London is evidently not a part of the UK. No wonder so many people were shopping!

    Easter is important to me as a Christian, so how do you celebrate by closing things? it is organized religion I have difficulty believing in.

    I'm with you, Bill; I believe very strongly in a Higher Power and do consider myself a Christian, but I'm not a fan of organized religion per se, (IMHO too many atrocities have been and still are committed in the name of organized religions to make a believer of me).

    I celebrate Easter by eating chocolate, but then I do that other days, too, so I'm not sure it's really a proper celebration.

    Best wishes for many sales to all,

    The forced closure of businesses on Easter Sunday only applies to those of a large enough size. Smaller businesses are permitted to trade as per normal Sunday opening rules. This effects all businesses*, not just supermarkets.

    * With some exemptions.

    Thanks for that Damian, I was under the impression that it was a free-for all at any time now.
