    Default neat idea

    saw this via facebook

Next year is the Commemeration of the outbreak of WWI and I just thought to myself, what a good idea if everyone bought a packet of Poppy seeds (or 2) from B&Q or wherever and scattered them in random places, ie: hedghrows, traffic roundabouts, empty back garden borders, planters etc. (not somewhere that is mown or tended to regularly by the Commissioners, for example. Then, this time next year, when they flower, we would all be looking at Poppy's in rememberance of those who fell during the 1914-1918 War.

A great idea Pat. Now is there a member on eBid that can supply RED (can only be red) poppy seeds at a knock down price for all members?

My seeds haven't yet flowered but maybe they will be red.

What a super idea - love it.
I have lots of poppies coming up in my garden, they are the huge 5 inch frilly Papver somniferum (opium poppy) variety.
Due to cross pollination by the insects, you cannot guarantee the colour of the poppies collected from the seeds - amazing variations appear every year.

But .... I know of a cornfield not far from here that is amass with bright red single poppies, it's an awesome sight to see.
If I can access this field, I shall collect seeds from the common red wild poppy, and offer them for sale.
No profit to me - or anyone else that would like to join in with this excellent idea.

Great idea! If we plant the seeds this year, will they bloom next spring/summer, or will it take longer??

I have red poppies in the garden (two types.....plain and fringed) and would be happy to share seeds.....

A lovely idea I was given some poppy seeds (orange not red) which I planted last spring and they are flowering now.

While I love the symbolism, I'm wary of interfering with nature in this way. What else will not grown because of loads of poppies?

Don't worry, they're not that easy to grow just by scattering their seeds. That's why they grow in cornfields - they need freshly turned earth to give them a head start from the other weeds.

What a lovely idea. Don't have a yard myself, (apartment dweller), but Dad does and he's always looking for new flowers. If anyone decides to sell the seeds, let me know.

Best wishes for many sales to all,
