I don't know about over there, but here in NC it's customary (and I believe the law) for all vehicles to get out of the way as quickly as possible if there's an emergency vehicle coming, whether off the road or into another lane, whatever. I've had to cross lanes myself to get out of the way of an ambulance and am glad I did.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

I think your roads tend to be bigger (as most things in the US are) than ours, so more room to get out of the way. You are supposed to get out of the way here, but not break the law to do so.

Our narrower roads and high traffic density usually leaves little room for manoeuvre.

True we do have wide roads, so that helps. I can't imagine having to get off the road quickly without a shoulder or similar, could be dangerous.

And that is why traffic is always backed up going into NYC ... no shoulders on many of the roads and always a siren screaming!
