So sad, and I can still remember what I was doing on that day.

So can I. I recall that all television programmes were taken off air and solemn music played. Doubt whether such respect would be shown these days.

I also remember where I was when Elvis died; when John Lennon was shot; when Princess Diana was killed.

Such traumatic events obviously stay etched in our memory whether, or not, we are personally involved.

True about the lack of respect unfortunately.

When JFK was shot my parents were in grad school and I was still a before thought. I was in grad school when Princess Di was killed, never will forget it, I thought it was all a bad joke, just tragic.

I too can remember where I was when I heard the news of the assassination and also the deaths of Elvis, John Lennon and Princess Diana.
These are the days of 24 hour rolling news.... so yes I reckon things will be very different when there is another prominent death, but it will probably not be due to lack of respect if the TV doesn't go quiet; it will be to broadcast further news and information as the scenario unfolds. Mind you, the 24 hour coverage can, at times, drone on and on repeating the same old stuff, but I am sure we would all miss it in these days of instant worldwide information and communication.

It happened when I was almost 7 years old. I can still remember.

I was just sat on the floor mithering my parents why there was just a ball going round on the TV.
The coalman told us when he came, I can still remember the coalmans name it was Duckworth and we always called him Ducker. just saying as i would not have remembered the coalmans name and I have always related the two

i was 2 nearly 3 and don't remember any of it, but i do remember the first moon landing, the death of Elvis and the Princess of Wales. Do't think I recall any other celebrity deaths
