    Default scottish power

Has anyone else had a letter from scottish power saying there will be a new daily standing service charge of 27.39p for electric and 37.39 for gas, if so can anyone explain what it means, will this be on top of the new price hike they will be doing as well.

I'd take that to mean that they will require you to pay them 65p a day before they supply you with any power!

    BLIMEY!

Thats what i think as well and the electric has also gone up from 9.798 to 15.334 a KW
and the electric 3.991 to 4.394
The correct amount for the service charge are a bit more actually
    they are
    electric
    27.39 per day
    and gas 27.39

Our monthly fuel charge has gone up since those morons would not put us a combie in and put a huge water cylinder in.
I get £69 a week pension and I pay all the household bills with it and hubby buys the food etc out of his.
I feel like jumping under a bus at the moment and at £155 a month the house is still freezing.
Sorry for going on but i am so upset at the moment.

Yes, that's about £100 per annum for electricity and £136 for gas on top of what you use. The co-op charge me £65.70 per annum for electricity (I don't use gas).

    That's awful Buttons!

Have you looked at Ebico? They are a not for profit energy supplier, no standing charges and no two tier rates, you just pay one flat rate for the energy you use.

We tried to get through to them on the phone to explain it but there was almost an hour delay due to heavy usage, I tell you what I will be on the phone first thing and i wont be with them by the afternoon.

I have been with Scottish Power for many years, as I have always had good customer service from them. They have seemed less expensive than many other suppliers, particularly if you are on one of their discount tarrifs. If the cost is going to go up astronomically, though, I will be looking elsewhere. I will look up Ebico, as Sucadot suggested.

The standing charge is quite common, though not all the power companies use it.
The ones that don't charge more per unit of power. This may work out more or less expensive, depending on how much you use.
It's one of the reasons the tariffs need to be simplified. And they sneakily tell you how much a day it is, hoping you haven't got a calculator, or can do simple multiplication.

It's like the line rental from the phone co. You get charged it however much you use.

My company (for the time being) is nPower. They just wrote to me to say they are increasing prices by 14%, but would reduce the standing charge to £100 per year. Then put it up.

I've just found The Cheap Energy Club, on Moneysavingexpert.
looks worth a try. And you get £30 cashback.
