What's new with the various auction sites and marketplaces out there? EcommerceBytes took a look at eBay, Amazon and Etsy alternatives to find out what's been going on lately. From major search changes at Bonanza to eBid going "Hollywood," among other things, it turns out, a lot!
Fiction Meets Auction Reality with eBid "Toy Story of Terror"
When eBid.net found itself featured in "Toy Story of Terror," a recent PIXAR Animation Halloween TV special where a toy seller lists on the site under the handle "iguanaluvr75," the site responded with a real auction" for charity. In this listing, the same seller name is hawking the movie's famous characters "Woody, Mr. Potato Head, Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Pricklepants and Jessie Doll."
At this writing, the bid is up to $275 and the reserve is met. Fans have until Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at 06:21 EDT to get in on the fun. eBid has also listed a second charity auction that features a combination of Disney-PIXAR's "Ultimate Collection" DVD set along with a cornucopia of eBid-branded merchandise.
"It's our own version of trick-or-treat," said eBid co-founder Mark Wilkinson. "We were flattered to see the eBid name in such a well-known movie series and wanted to extend the fun to the eBid Forum and Facebook page, where our members have been playing along with the joke. We hope people check out the auction and then browse around eBid a while because there is plenty more than just misbegotten toys to be had." Wilkinson added that it's a chance for the charity auction winner to have "a once-in-a-lifetime claim to fame."
