Default Buyer no longer wants item! after auction.

Buyer won an auction, three days after auction, replies to sent invoice, that he placed a bid on the item by mistake.(if so why did he wait till after the auction closed?)

How to handle: is he a non paying buyer? What type of feedback should one give?

Leave the feedback that you think is appropriate, only you can decide this.

Personally, I would not leave a negative in the case outlined above.
I would probably leave a neutral, or just cancel the transaction and leave no feedback, but again it would depend on the fvf that the auction attracted.

I agree with this reply, but is it not possible to get a fvf refund in the case of a cancelled bid or non-payer?

fvf's are not reclaimable on cancellations.

Unlike non-paying buyers where there is a NPB process to follow if reclaiming fvf's.

So, I have no problem with giving a neutral feedback, but the only way that this non paying bidder does not cost me money is to treat as a non payer and hope to get my fvf's back, and relist the item. I must give him 2 notices and time before I can relist the item. (right) I can see where this is going as a seller, I did nothing wrong, followed the rules, did not make a sale, and will end up with feedback not wanted, from a non paying bidder who broke the sales contract. Any other ideas as to how to handle?

My suggestion is to follow the NPB route & you will get fvf's back. Then write to support re unfair feedback (if you receive it) & ask for it to be removed. OK, inconvenience.... but you will get justice this way unlike elsewhere.
So there is a slight delay before re-offering the item for sale.... not exactly a big issue?

I would also add that buyer to your blackball list.

When I have NPBs who do not even bother to communicate, I leave a negative.
When I have NPBs who do have the courtesy to let me know (whatever the excuse) then I leave a neutral or just do not leave feedback, if unsure.

If it is something anywhere over £1, I do mark them as a NPB because it isnt fair that someone who has essentially wasted my time has cost me money by breaking thier side of the contract. If communication is running, I explain to the NPB that the only way I can reclaim my selling fees which they have cost me, is to go through a certain process required by ebid, so that they know upfront.
