I am sorry, but I have problems with this "Global warming" fad. So the Hoover dam will not have any water and the ice caps are melting.
They have been melting for over 10,000 years. We had an ice age, and now its over. When the dinosaurs walked the earth the atmosphere was totally different, at one point if you had been there (not suggesting anyone is getting on a bit), but if you had been there the atmosphere would probably have killed you. Now you can't tell me that all those naughty Dinosaurs had big factories and cars and made themselves extinct?
15,000 years ago Tunbridge Wells and the vast majority of Britain was under 80 odd feet of ice, possibly much more.
The earth wobbles, it takes 96.000 years to complete a full progression, we have no records of when we were at this bit of a wobble before.

I am off to stick another log on the fire..

That's not my experience. I know thousands of people who don't believe the global warming myth and they are all anti fracking too

I learned that global warming was a myth when I was at university back in the 90 's and the idea has since been totally debunked.

I could be more convinced by Global Warming if the politicians kept out of it and scientists did not rely on it to keep the funding rolling in. My personal opinion is that we are contributing to it. But it will not be the end of the world or even the end of mankind. I was reading earlier that they are making some great archaeological finds as snow melts in Norway. They are discovering bows and arrows and all sorts of things left behind thousands of years ago as this snow is melting for the first time since then. But it was not there two. three or five thousand years ago when the items were dropped and the world and man managed pretty well.

I am not saying we should do nothing, but as usual with most of these things the doomsayers take on 'the end of the world is nigh' attitude and others take a polar view. These extreme views, especially when held by scientists and politicians help nobody.

At least "Global Warming" wont make the water taste'Funny'!

<It may evaporate but while it's here it won't be contaminated by fracking.>

Fracking involves horizontal drilling that can extend two miles from the actual drill site, passing directly under the homes of those nearby.
Despite the government’s enthusiastic dash for gas, we have the power to make fracking very difficult, and may even be able to halt exploration in its tracks, if enough of us come together.
This is how it works: if you don’t want fracking companies pumping toxic chemicals under your home, you can say so. Then, any drilling there becomes trespassing; the frackers would be breaking the law.
All you have to do is declare that your home is 'Not for Shale' and you will be added to the growing legal block to stop fracking where you live.
But we need to act quickly, as there are hints that the government will try to change the law to support their dash for gas. [2]
Look up your postcode to find out if you could be fracked and join the legal block now.
Would we be able to allow them to "Frack for a Fee"?

I'll rephrase that. Will you be able to allow them to "Frack for a Fee"?

When UK shale gas extraction by fracking first began to feature in press reports some years ago, there was a belief that lords of the manor would profit substantially from energy companies drilling beneath lands subject to manorial rights. The reasoning appears to have been as follows. English law allows for the ownership of land and rights over or under the land to be vested in different parties. Lordship rights, if separated from surface ownership, would allow the owner of those rights ownership of minerals beneath the surface. Since gas is a mineral, a lord of the manor in whom mineral rights was vested would be entitled to ownership of the gas.
    The Crown and minerals
The problem with this analysis was that it took no account of legislation which nationalised gas. Hydrocarbons – gas, oil and coal - have been vested in the Crown since 1934, and this explains why government can issue licences for shale gas exploration and extraction. So lords of the manor cannot claim ownership of shale gas, even if they own the land from which the gas is extracted.

To make it short the answer to my question is...no.

The opening post concerns Pennsylvania...........so surely those from USA should be able to post here.

Environmentally, I can see potential problems with the activity. The safety assurances given for the process may or may not be reliable. The companies doing the fracking may issue the information. If the activity were greatly expanded, it is a bit un-nerving as to the potential results. From what I have read, it seems to be going on in many places around the world.

The issue for me is whether fracking would be properly controlled.

In the UK Health and Safety is completely over the top so the risk of contaminated water is low.
I expect UK fracking would be an example to other places of how to do things safely, if you had the will and the money to do it.
