Buterfly alert!!

Just a heads up - I went outside, and was walking past the blooming sedum, when I realized there were at least 25 butterflies feeding there!! Three varieties.......It's warm and damp out, no breeze, and perfect for them! I had only seen a couple here and there so far this summer, and never this many in one spot. They really do love those sedum more than anything....even the butterfly bushes.

2 red admirals
+/-6 small tortoise shells, and
a boatload of commas!

If you get a chance to take a wander outside today - keep your eyes open!!

Thanks for the heads up I was out in the front garden earlier digging up a woody lavender, when I went for the wheelie bin to put it in I found a frog underneath the bin - so glad I didn't flatten it!

I've a few sedum in the back garden, so I'll keep my eyes peeled this afto

It's good to see some species are making a reappearance - though still not the variety that existed when I was a kid. For too many years all that seemed to be about were Cabbage Whites.

We often have some little blue butterflies down in the meadow. It's a pretty natural place....no plowing or animals or spraying here. I didn't notice any this spring, but didn't get down much. Will have to look today. I think different kinds come out at different times.

I believe our swallows have left to head south...........haven't seen them for about a week. Not sure if they eat butterflies. We've had a few white butterflies around, too. The commas are so amazing...........look like a dead, battered leaf when their wings are closed.

I'm so glad the butterflies in your area are doing well. It seems to be a bit of a "green desert" here although I participated in the Big Butterfly Count and counted a few different species besides the ubiquitous Large and Small Whites. Funny thing, oodles of birds around here but hardly any butterflies, not that I've noticed anyhow. I've got to get out of the city...
