Well, I have sold one today. Not a lot, I know, but it left a little space on my bookshelf, and the buyer has bought from me before

I know you're only trying to help but do you honestly think anyone gives a hoot about any of that when they are buying a book. OP can put that if they really want to but it will have no impact on sales whatsoever.
My understanding is that only Seller+ and Platinum listings with Buy It Now are sent to Google and last time I looked the OP was Seller.

So a BIN price is totally pointless from that point of view anyway.
No idea - I have been seller + for years now.
Many thanks for your, obviously, considered reply. And thanks for going to the trouble of going into my auctions. I'm sorry that you feel unwilling to buy from me but as you want B.I.N options you are unlikely to even bother to view my auction to start with. As with Ebay I've always, as both buyer and seller, prefered the bidding aspect of the auction, surely this was the very reason for the creation of both Ebay and Ebid. If I just wanted to buy an item I would go Amazon who are the specialists in that type of sale. As for my personal details, I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with your viewpoint, there are some things that I might want to buy that need this sort of information but 99p books? I really don't think my personal history, likes, dislikes etc bears any relevance to wether you want a copy of 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' or 'Macbeth' do you really?
I am at this stage just trying the site so am not prepared to pay £50 to go beyond the standard seller position, this obviously prevents me doing many of the things you suggest and, to be honest, unlike you I am only a private seller not an online business so will not have either the time or resources available to you to put items up for sale.
I'm also sorry you find my conditions harsh and unfriendly but experience of 6 years on Ebay have taught me to make any requirements very simple, clear and straight to the point. The more words you put in to your seller requirements the less likely SOME buyers are to read them (the small print syndrome) should any buyer wish to buy 2 or more books I would expect them to check with me first to see if I combine P & P charges (which I do by the way) rather than cluttering the books details with information that the majority of buyers will not be interested in.
To conclude, thanks again for both your time and advice, I may not agree with all of it but appreciate the effort on your part.

Well, thats it. I've now completed my 100 book auction listings. Let's sit back, cross my fingers and see what happens. But to be honest it's now been over a week since I first listed and not a single title has sold, I fear the Ebay scaremongers may have been telling the truth about slow traffic here.
I will concede the point on the about me page if all your books are 99p items.
I wish you all the best for the future and will be sorry to see you go.
Thanks, I really want this to work. I'm pretty sure that in the same way Ebay backed down on free P&P on books three years ago they'll do so again on the 10% FVF fees but it'll take a few months ( every day sellers who've just checked their account are realising this charge has gone on) and by then a lot of buyers will have left too. I know sellers are trying Ebid for the first time but I'm not sure we've brought the buyers with us..
Have to say that I agree with the points that thebeddingman made. Since you don't sell to Canada, I had to check the UK system, so I would never find your items. Don't know if you sell to the US.
I do think that sales can be made here, but a different approach is required ... the kind of approach outlined by thebeddingman.
Good luck.
Marie
