I think something like MakeOffer might be better than MaO or even simply Offer. Of course, when it comes to our common language, there is quite a few little things that sometimes leads to little misunderstandings. The use P&P, for example took a bit of getting use to as opposed to our S&H.

'MakeOffer' sounds more like shorthand or texting.

It is a neat feature and using acronyms may not hack it that is why I am all for an image or icon as in my previous post.

MaO may just need to be more used like the now more common understood P&P you referred to.

What puzzles me though, why is the YES under MAO ??

Where screen real estate (or the lack thereof) necessitates the use of iconography or abbreviation, the simplest solution would be to include a key, like you get on maps, on the page.

The problem with using icons, such as the open hand, on a multinational site is that it may not have the same meaning across all countries and cultures.

In Sign language the open hand means 'give', in I would think any Culture and adding a queastion mark in the palm of the hand could convey the message as an 'offer'.

Such a symbol could be made the ' key'; and so understood in its usage.

I would think the whole idea of making an offer on an item provides options, gauge and insight as to to the value of an item seen by others.

Afraid I'm not versed in signing, but in different cultures a palm facing means entirely opposite from one culture to another. In fact, some gestures common to some are highly insulting in others. I would urge thorough study before adopting one for use on eBid.

Of course a symbol should not offend, having said that I honestly can not imagine an open hand to be offensive to any culture. Any deity has hand gestures which only humans can adopt but we are moving off the subject.

Bearing in mind this is an English site P&P and MaO could be just as offensive to some.
Bringing in cultural opinion could only be solved by a democratic poll on this site.

While some of us now know what MaO stands for as it is presently used - how successful is this feature ?

Perhaps some fellow members can enlighten a 'newbie' as to what success or disappointments they may have had using MaO.

Judging by the amount of members wanting MaO, some suggestion may pop up.

Question Re: What (or who) the heck is MaO? =^..^=

    Getting back to:-
    MaO
    Yes

Perhaps I am impatient in getting some response on my MaOs but since I listed some a while back, nothing happened.

Of course the reason could be the material is not attractive but having a little spead some result should materialise.

Having said the latter I get the notion members do not know what it is, or how it works and simply avoid.

I would very much like to hear of others that have had MaOs work in their favour. Maybe someone has an idea as how to make it more attractive to a an interested buyer.

Who has had good results using MaOs ?

Obviously someone originally had the idea to create this feature here, so did the expectations come to fruition ?
