I would think it would depend on what you find frightening. What frightens one person will simply amuse someone else.
As Mel said what some may find scary others may find funny. I looked up top 100 horror movies and was quite surprised at the list but I did find the one I was looking for but the earlier version is one I had to walk away from...it did scare me.
1981 Evil Dead, most others I find hilarious!
thanks Mel that makes absolute sense, never thought about that when I asked for suggestions so thanks will try to re word my question.

thanks Adruml yes I see what you all mean now being new to site I need to learn to word things better, but your choice of film is a good one as I wasn't to keen on the tree bit in the woods which I think they later toned down. thanks Jacqui x
hi Damian thanks for the website link I have just watched the trailer for RIPD and im still laughing cant wait to see it I know its not horror but I love Ryan Reynolds thanks again Jacqui x
I always find the less gory more psychological horror fims to be more scary (and they stay in your mind when you go to bed) a typical example would be the Haunting of Hill House (the original 1960s B & W version) It still brings goosebumps when I remember the scene where two women have sort comfort in one bed after some mild haunting experiences, all seems to have calmed down when suddenly there's banging noises from all around the room followed by a few moments of silence ......then the heavy wooden door bends inwards as the entity behind the door tries to get in...brrrrrrrrr
