As far as ebay being finished.....More than likely will never be finished, but they are transforming themselves into something that does not resemble the past. Is that good for the small sellers trying to make a partial living? I do not believe so. At least it was not for me. Not only that, but I saw the potential of what could have been. Sales increasing month over month. All depended on how hard I wanted to work. Then they changed something and my views dropped 60% in a matter of a couple of weeks. Over the course of months it did not matter how much I listed and how hard I worked nothing could change the path I was on. Could I still list on ebay and make money? Yes. More than I can make here right now. There comes a time for me when I have to take a stand against what I believe is corporate greed and do whatever it takes to keep the numbers growing. I refuse to list anymore on ebay. Does that hurt me....yes it does. But I am taking my stand here in hopes that more do the same.

I haven't seen this on other venues.
Were those reports for you or ebay in general ?

Well…’’babe’’ you can check too if you’re having account for yours listed items…
Log in…click manage my store…click on traffic reports…
On the left side you have menu and you can chose various reports for yours listing like example for a day…or month…or whole year…
‘’Of course’’ if you have account….if not just sit tight…and enjoy ‘’traffic’’ reports what other presents you…

Well…I just check my…and looked ok, because for around 20 items listed only and that mostly or 99% my items will buy only ‘’one particular sort of peoples or from one particular country’’ …so…I don’t expect more….
At least that counts of numbers is not like ‘’views’’ count where person have 20 views and in the next 1 hour 250 and after 2 hours go back on 5…
    I mean….c’mon….

    OP

    I think you exaggerate.

Over the years I have seen many people complain about their traffic on overture etc declining.

But ebays sales and revenue and listing numbers keep going up.
Its Alex rating is about the same on 20.

And it stock price has not fallen.

Unless something cataclysmic happened or some major new rules alienated thousands of people, I cannot see any such decline happening.

And nothing has been reported to Ina Steiners blog.

I was scanning over several threads on their forums about wild fluctuations in sales. There were not titled as such, but when you read a few posts you can see sales were up then down and sometimes nothing. Lets face it people will generally report a sudden drop in sales and not a sudden rise. They are probably too busy when sales are good and its human nature to moan about the bad times.

So I decided to look at my traffic reports. I don't look at these very often and I don't often look at the forum posts when someone is just complaining, but there are a lot of people complaining. In fact I had to re-instate the reports on my account before I could see anything.

When I viewed the traffic reports I was shocked to see traffic to my store/pages has dropped by a huge margin. I was going to add some figures here, but the reports are temporarily unavailable. So I will add them when I can see the info again. Not just a sharp decline, but big fluctuations too. Not the usual seasonal variation either. I can identify some variations because of some new listings added, etc. I am more interested in the long term trend.

I have been adding more new stock and quite a few popular titles along the way. My strategy (title choice, number of listings, pricing...) was working fine up until November. When suddenly my sales average dropped and that is supposed to be the busiest time of the year! In fact due to the wild fluctuations I had a better month March/April time this year than I did before Christmas. Spring leading into summer is usually a gradual decline for my stuff, then rising from late summer to Christmas and starting to decline around the beginning of February into summer again.

Patterns are emerging too, suddenly one day I get all my sales from Australia. Then another day all from the UK. I have never seen this before.

I can only guess the reason why. I think it is something to do with the new best match search engine. I think they have been fiddling with it. Some sellers report problems with variations on wording, such as bead and beads producing different search results. Some are searching for their own listings using a guest account and asking friends to look. They are finding that half their listings are not in the results. Some listings are invisible, depending on which browser you use.

I had an incident recently where I clicked a link to my store and was presented with a message saying this store has no listings at this time! I clicked it again a few moments later and it was fine. This phenomenon has been reported by others.

I would like to compare my figures with others, to find out if its just me - but I very much doubt it. Games sell on a regular basis, its something people will always buy even though it could be counted as a luxury.
I remember everything, even what happened tomorrow.

I still sell on the bay when they have free listing days or if something is in the 99p or under price and I am having a clear out.

However, eBid is my main place to sell and things seem to be selling here faster than they used to.

Julie, These links are for you. I just grabbed a couple of things. Granted, not all information is going to be accurate. I can only speak for myself and I had similar things happen to my store on ebay. I never even went into ebay forums til I saw a dramatic decrease. I found people who were having the same issues. We were trying to figure out what , if anything, we were doing wrong and could do to change.

Well…probably that stuff becomes similar likes on other sites where many sellers who have not much listing have hard time to reach higher traffic for own store or peoples don’t see yours item that much like before…
I see too many complain but very rare or not any from the guy’s who has thousand and thousand listing in own stores…
Because from each feedback from those similar guys I see sales every day even up to hundreds feedback day to day…
Guy’s who running stores with Premium or lower of that but not ‘’Basic’’ stores…
Probably that site pushing up mostly guys where can round up very high monthly bill…

But anyway I still don’t know for sure…
But again no complains much from these who has up to 100.000 or more in each own store….
Anybody can check guys who have ‘’doesn’t matter which items’’ but many thousand and thousand in own store….

P.S. Still in my opinion sellers with ‘’Basic’’ store or with items cheap mostly and where that site can’t round up much fees from your own sales pushing out or yours item is not anymore that seen like before…
And probably everything end up in the end likes: If you’re gives us high money in each month we give you something in return….all other can be on ‘’your own’’ likes ‘’we don’t have anymore much money in fees from you, so we will hide your items or becomes hard to seen’’…

Well I must say (I have been quiet on the forums due to my theatre group getting underway with rehearsals for Les Mis.) that there are a lot fewer things for sale on the bay than there used to be. I have needed to buy a load of stuff for the theatre show, and as I always do, I check both sites (sadly still I usually find what we need cheaper over there than here which is a real shame as my first choice for shopping is ebid, but when doing a show on a non-existant budget, I have to go for the cheapest option, and in one case a price was £50 less than on ebid.) But usually you can find whatever you are looking for, between the two sites. But recently, no, I havent found things on either site. I know there is less on ebid sometimes because it is a less known site (not a whinge), but there seems to be an overall decrease of stuff on both sites. (from my point of view).

My selling experience on e'bay in recent months has been very poor. I could list 10 items and sell at least half of them. Now I am lucky if I sell one. But I do think it is the buyers that are more careful and of course the increased postage is not helping
