Hazel, what a tough situation! Do make sure that your daughter speaks to the appropriate people at the university in case there is anything else they can do to help.

Thanks Madeaine, it took her a while to swallow her pride enough but she has now spoke to the appropriate people & their answer is why we have set up this gofundme page. x

Hi fellow EBidders, can anyone give me some advise as to why you think people on gofundme are not backing my daughter. We are getting lots of views but no backing My daughter is trying to study for forthcoming exams & the worry of finances next year she is wondering why she should bother now as it looks like she may have to quit her dream. Any advice appreciated x

I think many of the views are probably spiders/bots. It's just a tough world out there.

    Where is she studying?

Hi Hazel, as Madelaine said it is a tough old world out there. I struggled as a one-parent to get my daughter through Uni. At one stage whilst in Uni she even had to take a part time job cleaning toilets which broke my heart. She graduated with a double Honours (Engineering & Economics, Birmingham) and took up her dream from when she was 11 to become an Engineer. Last time she was home she thanked me for all I had tried to do for her education.
Cut backs are appalling for so many Hazel, just do the best you can as you are doing ~ you can't do any more.
My best wishes to your daughter & I hope that she will find a way to pursue her dream & not abandon it.

It is a hard situation. It sounds like your daughter is getting some good help for some of her expenses, which is great. She is just going to have to keep on looking for solutions, and, as cheaver mentioned, working while going to uni is a good start. My older daughter held down a full-time job waitressing at nights, and went to uni full-time. It takes grit and determination, both good traits to hold on to for the rest of your life. My younger daughter did school in steps - went to uni and worked for awhile, then entered the work force full-time. Then, years later, went back and finished with magna cum laude (while working PT and going to uni FT). Where there's a will, there's a way. My kids had no help from their dad, and I was not able to do a lot financially at the time, so it was their own determination that saved the day.
    Ta-Ta for now!

It is hard making ends meet,
Even though we were divorced and trying to run two seperate homes,
My (ex) wife and I found it very hard.
As I was a manager with "Willian Hill" my daughter grabbed a job with them,
the hours of work were perfect.

But even so, she still owed a hefty sum when she finished.
Now she earns more money than I ever did.

So, all I can say is, every one has to pull their weight, if a dream is worth it.
and sometimes you have to build a few bridges to get there.

Thank you everyone for your comments. She seriously would work more if she could but with medicine & being in T year she is often on placements from 7am until 9pm when you take in the travelling & often does night shifts (unpaid) too as part of the course. As she has been so poorly this year she has struggled to keep up with the studying, the glandular fever has made her want to sleep all the time & the migraines stop her from doing anything. The fever she is on the up from, whereas the migraines are getting more & more regular with the stress of how she is going to cope finacially. She has in the last 2 years worked as a health care assistant & tutoring the younger students but has not had the health & hence the time because of catching up on studying, these past few months.
Claire is already going to be over £40.000 in debt by the time she finishes & is fine with that as she will earn enough to pay it back. However this daft NHS bursary/student finance situation is a nightmare for those that do not have parents who can give them money to live on while student finance take away their maintenance grant. I am not in a position to take out a loan either, believe me if I could I would.
I know everyone is having it rough at the moment & do not expect any big contributions but looking around on gofundme it does seem a little weird that we are not getting support when some are getting loads for pleasureable trips & hobbies etc. I'm feeling like Billy no mates, but most of my friends (including Facebook ones) are in a similar situation like me & family are not in a position to help either.
We will get her through some how!!! & she is not a quitter, she's just had a seriously bad year health wise & this student loan/bursary thing has knocked her for six. We weren't aware of it until recently & I think if she had known before starting it would have stopped her doing medicine because she wouldn't/doesn't want to have to rely on anyone but herself. It's a good job in a way that she didn't know before as she is going to be a fab medic, she thinking along the lines of either Emergency consultant or an anaesthetist but doesn't have to decide until way down the line.
Saying all this, one kind stranger has contributed today & for that we are both very grateful I will keep spreading the word & doing all I can, I just wondered if anyone thought anything I had written on the gofundme page was putting people off contributing. Thanks EBidders x http://gift-poems-galore.ebid.net/ http://www.gofundme.com/medical-plea

You have found extra funding of £1000 per year which is a great achievement.

Your page is bringing you some donations too ~ but I sense a tone of grievance that others are achieving greater monies for more frivolous wish lists.
("some are getting loads for pleasureable trips & hobbies etc. I'm feeling like Billy no mates")

I think that now that you have well publicised your efforts for your daughter then future efforts here on eBid should be placed in the Plug Your Auctions Forum.

Again, I wish your daughter every success in overcoming the difficulties she faces with her studies.

Hi Cheaver, it is not grievance at all! I am just wondering if I have worded something wrong on the page I set up. I obviously worded my last comment here wrong as the Billy no mates referred to my Facebook account which is linked to gofundme; I only have 80 odd friends (some of whom are only acquaintances) whereas lots of people have 100's.
Sorry if you feel I have been placing this in the wrong category in the forums, it's just it says chat about anything & as I had some nice kind comments here a few days ago I thought I'd ask their advice about the page. Thank you for wishing my daughter well x
