Thread: Uploading Bulk listing with a zip file

  1. #1

Default Uploading Bulk listing with a zip file

I have tried and tried to upload bulk listing with images from my hard drive (zipped) with tab delimited file. Does anyone know how to do this. Seems I am doing something wrong. When I try to upload it, I get the response that there are no images even tho they are compressed in a zip file .
    Thanks

It seems you can not upload a zip file this is from the help pages.

    18) Can I bulk upload my listings?

SELLER and SELLER+ users can make use of the eBid Ninja Lister to create auctions and to import auctions from other online marketplaces. See FAQ 46 for more. SELLER+ account holders can also download the eBid Spreadsheet from the My Bulk Upload section of My eBid. Auctions should be added to the sheet following the instructions on the sheet and then uploaded in tab delimited format via the form on the My Bulk Upload page.
Files must be saved as TAB delimited .txt format. Comma delimited (.csv) and excel native files (.xls) cannot be uploaded.
In Excel : File > Save As > choose Tab Delimited (txt) option.
In Open Office : Save As > CSV > But choose TAB as delimiter when asked.

The .zip file should contain the images for the listings and the spreadsheet file (which references those images).

So the contents of the .zip file would look something like:

    listings.txt
    image1.jpg
    image2.jpg
    image3.jpg

The image reference in column F of the spreadsheet for each item would simply contain the image file name: e.g. image1.jpg

Thank you for taking your time, I have done it exactly that way, All items on my hard drive are .jpg and the same for the image zip file, but no matter how I save it with TXT it will not load to ebid. Keeps saying images are not available. Guess i will go back to the slow way.
The instructions are very very vague when explaining this upload procedure. All images are zip filed and spreadsheet is txt and zipped.
This is what my jip file looks like:
    image1.jpg
    image2.jpg
    image3.jpg
    txt document

all images on hard drive are the same as on the spreadsheet and have .jpg

I can only suggest that you open a support ticket ( http://uk.ebid.net/contact.php ) and include the zip file that you are trying to upload as an attachment. Admin may then be able to spot what is going awry or what you are getting wrong.

If the file is not too large (<1MB) you could send it to me via http://mootango.webspace.virginmedia...ile_upload.htm and I'll have a look.

Hello, I sent you a file thru the link you provided, your help is very much appreciated. I just wish e-bid would have more detailed instructions since not everyone who uses e-bid is an experienced programmer.
    Thank you again

I think it is a problem with the naming of the image files. In the zip you have them with the .jpg file extension in lower case (e.g. CHQ100-AT.jpg), but in the data file you refer to them in all upper case (e.g. CHQ100-AT.JPG) and that is causing a mismatch.

This would seem to be an over fussiness on the part of the Bulk Upload verification routine.Try altering either the data file or the actual image filenames so that the two match and see if the zip is then accepted for processing.

If that does work then it may be worth contacting admin with a view to getting the Bulk Upload verification relaxed a bit.

I use bulk load all the time, sometimes 1000 listings at a time, just loading the tab delimited text file, and it is quite fast enough.

After reading this, I will give the zip file a miss!

It's quite a good way of uploading data and images in one shot. It just appears (until the OP proves my theory) that the validation routine is fussy about the case of image filenames being the same for both the image and in the data file.

AFAIAA you cannot have two files with the same filename in a zip file even if the case is different (not unless directories are used - which they aren't for a Bulk Upload zip), so the case of a filename should be irrelevant during validation. A quick normalisation of filenames (e.g. all to lower case) by eBid before validation should overcome the problem experienced here.
