Hi All,
Does anyone also believe this antique hip flask that belonged to my great grandfather to be by James Dixon ?

Hi; I am no expert, but this sort of hip flask was produced by many silver and silver plate manufacturers over the centuries. James Dixon was a prolific producer of this sort of item, but I believe that manufacturers like James Dixon always marked their items.
If it does bear a makers mark your may find it around the cap rim, base of the cup at the bottom or possibly inside the cup at the bottom.
I presume that the bottom part is removable? and acts as a cup. If it does not then you may be missing the cup. It is hard to tell from the photos, sorry.
If the item is not marked, then it is (in my humble opinion) unlikely to be a Dixon.
Hi, Yes, The bottom part is removable, I cannot find any marks on the rim or the base of the cup, however, now you have mentioned inside the cup it looks like it has a tiny stamp of a small heart shaped stamp. With the naked eye I cannot read whats inside the heart shape.
I think I need to do more research on this if it does not sell, thanks for the heads up on inside of the cup.
Cheers Neil
What a fascinating piece. I'm going to look up the history of this designer. If you could get a picture to share of the hallmark. I have a great site that carries the images or history of silversmiths and designers markings. I'm looking forward to find out more if offered!
Hello again Neil; Glad to have been of some service.
Dixon marks usually have a "bugle" or trumpet like mark on their silver plate.
If you can feature a photo of the mark we may all be able to have a go at identification? even a sketch of the mark may help.
There are also a few online guides to silver plate.
