Thread: Why can't i require instant payment on BIN listings?

  1. #1

Default Why can't i require instant payment on BIN listings?

I am getting eaten to death by non-paying bidders. All my listings are Buy it Now. People buy, don't pay and I get stung with a seller's fee. It isn't worth 50 cents or so to jump through 15 minutes of hoops to get a refund.

If eBid would do something about problems like this, sellers might consider it a serious place to sell stuff. eBay does fine with requiring instant payment.

Ebay may do 'fine' with their instant payment option, but how many actually do pay instantly?

I've seen listings on eBay that say "immediate payment required", but if I were to buy and then choose not to pay, there's no way to hold a gun to my head and force me to pay. I don't see how it really makes any difference, I would get a negative feedback in either case.

And "immediate payment required" would discourage multiple purchases, so I wouldn't use it even if it was offered on eBid.

With 'Immediate payment required' set on eBay the sale doesn't register until payment is made and the listing remains active to othervbuyers if payment is not made.

With immediate payment required on BIN listings on the Bay, they ALL pay instantly or there's no transaction at all, which at least prevents a Seller from being charged fees for something they never received payment for.

@Alamo ... I feel what you're saying. This is happening to us here right now. We FINALLY get a sale on this venue and the buyer sends a message AFTER making the decision to click the 'purchase' button and says they want to pay by credit card but it doesn't give them the option to do so. And why is this? They just signed up on eBid yesterday to make the purchase and my guess is they don't have a PayPal account.

eBid has charged me fees for this sale but it's NOT a sale until the transaction is completed by Buyer payment. I'll give it 2-3 days and see if the Buyer responds to either the eBid message I've sent or the email. But, an immediate payment required would have eliminated this issue and since all my items are FREE SHIPPING then they're would have been no need to modify the invoice for combined shipping if they had purchased multiple items either.

eBid's process for handling non-payment transactions is that after waiting an appropriate amount of time for a Buyer to make payment, then the Seller can request eBid to review the transaction for fee reimbursement. But, that also then requires the seller to leave either a neutral or negative feedback, which IMO doesn't do anything for encouraging other buyers to purchase from me if they get the sense I leave bad feedback for my customers.

Whether here or on other sites, you can set up immediate payment by having a premier or business pay pal account.

I have had a buyer over the past few weeks who started off buying 4 items. A couple of days later they bought 2 more, before paying for the first, they then bought more. I had a message saying that they were having problems using an AEX card with Paypal. Eventually they said they had sent a Western Union payment. They used the wrong name so I could not collect. They again bought more. Another Western Union payment and again could not collect as they used a different name for themselves. Eventually they had bought 15 items for about £135 and £40 shipping to Canada. I had all the details and collected the money in cash without having to pay Paypal. A happy result (eventually) that might not have happened without patience and Instant Payment.

Another note on this buyer. They sold to other eBidders who left Negative Feedback for non payment one sold on 25th March with negative left on the 28th. the other sold on the 19th March with negative left on the 20th March. The sale where feedback was left after a day was for £35 and was almost certainly lost through impatience.

I have 3 outstanding payments at the moment dating back up to 4 days. I will go through the payment reminder process and hope for payment. If not I will reclaim the FVF's and relist. It is an unfortunate fact that for some reason people hit the buy button and do not pay, apparently a number of sales are sometimes made after the consumption of alcohol. If that is the case it is better just to deal with it calmly and get on with it. At least that way the buyer might return for a real sale at some point.

it is a paypal feature, if you use their check out. But then don't have the option of adjusting postage, etc for multiple purchases and would end up paying fee for each purchase separately.
