Scanning is always best for items that can lay flat.
use 300dpi.
Scanning takes a bit longer but gives a much clearer picture: no shaky hands
That's an idea....I may try it with some jewelry.

Scan is better then photo if it is just the one comic in the listing but a few things to know when scanning the comics if they are bagged then make sure the bag is tight to the comic or else you will get sagging lines on the cover scan or even glare from it best if the bag is loose then take it out of the bag. Make sure the scanner bed is very clean as a good cover is part of the selling point for a comic book you don't want a mark on the scanner making it look like you have a mark on the cover of the comic.
Oh and if you do scan the comic in bag and the bag has a price sticker on it then state in the listing that the price sticker is on the bag as again this is a turn off for collectors if the price sticker is on the comic.

so it would be better to scan the cover out of the bag i tend to have all my comics Bagged and boarded and i know when i have scanned before i got better results when i removed it.
Just want to find away to show the condition of the comic correctly and i am not the best at grading, and tend to use a guide and my gut feeling.
I know the feeling when you get a comic to find its in a state, like one i got from the other auction site that was described as having a small tear to the top of the cover and when i got it had rips all over and tears through the whole comic.
It depends on how long the comic has been bagged and boarded for, because after time some of the bags will start to sag and when you scan them in the bag you get like a ripple image on the front cover which is okay if your a collector of a long time you would think oh it just a loose bag but the amount of times i have had questions asked like is the cover okay? or is there water damage no the cover etc.
I tend to scan the cover 1st then if it is a high grade issue then leave it as that but am willing to send more picture on request. But if it is a lower grade then with take picture of the faults if they don't show up in a scan.
I'm not a pro grade myself but it is best to always under grade then over. what guide do you use? is it an on line one? have a link somewhere for an online one if ya need it.
Yeah I also have been stung lately on the darkside spotted a last issue of the Dandy at cover price where the rest were going for over £40 won it for just short of a tenner description said it was in very fine condition but when it turn up it was in less the fair condition but any how i now have a reading copy of it as i already have a mint copy tucked away.

I tend to use the one on the comicpriceguide.com but have looked at loads on line used to get a book the comic price guide and use the grading guide in that but that hasnt been printed for ages.
but in the past i didnt really grade as i was trying to get ever copy of a run but as space has run out i have changed and just buying selected issues, some cgc slabbed comics, signed ones and recalled ones.
meaning i have loads to sell and having to dust off my grading skills.
yeah I used that for a while but use for ruff pricing comicbook realm mainly because it converts the price to gbp quite easy.
space has is becoming a problem with me too have about 3500 listed to sell plus another 1700 odd to list and then i have my collection as well which is 16 long box (300) in each mainly bat stuff.
here's that link i was on about if ya need it http://www.e-bigs.net/freetool.php
