The Daily Mail (online) are currently running a story about a woman who has had a medical procedure go wrong.
When most women in the Western world are obsessed with slimming down, losing weight, tightening up and obtaining the tiniest bum possible, it seems that some women in South America are actually having implants put in to make their bums look bigger.

All of which makes me wonder just how important are societal pressures in defining body shape.
Why is one shape more preferable than another? Why in one country are women deemed to look sexy if they have a big bum or a tiny waist or big breasts or whatever else, and in another country the oposite might be true?
Men, too, are feeling the need to change their shape, weight or style. Is this just vanity or something else?
Who is it putting pressure on people to look a certain way? People say they are unsatisfied with their shape, but why? What gets into their heads that makes them feel unhappy? Is it advertising, TV & films, peer pressure or something else? Who defines the supposedly perfect image?
Is this dissatisfaction with body shape just a manifestation of other problems in life? Perhaps a desire to exercise control over something when so much else seems out of our control?
Have you chosen to have cosmetic surgery? If so, would you explain why?
Are you thinking about having some "work" done? If so, would you explain why?
Do you personally know someone who has had surgery and know why they did it?
If cosmetic surgery seems too extreme, do you constantly battle with your weight because you feel other people dislike your size/shape? I'm not asking about weight loss for medical reasons, but for asthetic reasons.
Do you worry about how you look because you feel you should live up to other people's expectations? If so, would you explain why?
How important is how we look?
How important should it really be?
