ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY. Not enough is being done to fund research into this horrible, horrible disease.

Think it should be more a 'world wide' charity for the biggie... and one which does not squander money on admin or lose the cash on the way .... bit cynical I know....
my vote will be for Shelterbox ... ticks all the boxes ...

There are hundreds of charities I would just love to support but at this point in the proceedings I'll start with my chosen charity - RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre, Nantwich, Cheshire.
Now back to getting YDC ready!

I haven't voted yet, because I don't really know for sure which charity to nominate.
I know of many deserving causes, but I feel that YDC100 must be a charity that all (global) participants would be happy to support.
It's quite a difficult decision.
I don't want to nominate a charity that takes too much from monies donated for admin costs, I would like to support a charity that would be really grateful for our donation.
So many of the larger charities have benefactors who donate huge amounts - ours would be a drop in the ocean, if you see what I mean.
Thinking long and hard (Ouch, it hurts!)
Nancy, this dreadful illness has touched our family, and I know it has affected many other families too.
This is a fine cause, sadly too late for my mum.
As people are living longer, and Alzheimer's and Dementia cases are on the increase, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could research further and discover ways to combat and (dare I say it ... cure) this nightmare disease.
Here is a link to the Charity Commission website. It is easy enough to look at accounts (look in the left hand column on the page of the Charity you are researching). Here you will find incomes & expenditures - and just what % of Charitable income is actually spent on achieving a Charity's goal.
You will also be able to see (in the Charity Overview) - what a Charity is Registered to do, and where (global or otherwise) - and you can compare then with how it performs (or doesn't, as the case may be) with what it is actually doing.
It might help in decision making for nominations.....
