I am thrilled to have won YDC 97 & to be able to choose the nominated Charity, YDC 98, for this month. It is especially poignant for me as it was back in 1998 that I lost Janet, my daughter, & her Birthday is in April. In fact, YDC 98 will start 2 days after what would have been her 44th Birthday. I see YDC 98 as a double celebration - the life of Janet, & the lives of the kids of today & their futures.
So for YDC 98 I am choosing my own Charity, Janet's Trust, & the plan I have in place for monies raised is to take all the Kids in Care, 5 boys and 2 girls, to my local Theatre where our local Theatrical Group is putting on a production of 'Allo, Allo' in May. Children's Home Staff & myself will accompany the boys on one night, & the pleasure will be repeated the following night for the girls. We are nearly at the top of the allocation list for tickets so it is looking a very promising possibility of a plan.
YDC monies raised will go towards paying for the tickets (& the chocolates of course!) for this outing for the Kids &, apart from 1 youngster who was once taken to a Theatre, it will be the first Theatre trip they will have ever had the opportunity to go to - the only other productions in their experience being School events when they were much younger.
Being "out here" in the grown up world with us, as part of the Community, and enjoying an adult production is an essential part of their well-being & cultural experience.
If there are insufficient funds from YDC 98 to cover the Theatre trips then Janet's Trust will make up the necessary monies from its existing fund availability. If there are any surplus funds once the Theatre trips have been paid for then they will remain in Janet's Trust account for future use as & when necessary.
I do hope everyone will feel that I have made the right choice for the right reasons & I also hope that YDC 98 will continue to embrace all the various Charities which are close to the hearts of other eBidders as well - just as the eBid generous spirit has always done in the past.
Congratulations Cheaver !
