i dont know whether it is still in practise, but germany in the 70,s & 80,s charged trucks duty for the amount of diesel they had in their fuel tanks when they entered the country, it was i believe known as "tanksheine."when you left you could get a credit note allowing you to bring in the same amount as you were taking out, the next time that vehicle entered germany. it should be brought in here.

i think craig, if you read the whole article or listen to his statement, what he said was he was thinking of setting up a privatised road scheme, but only for any new roads to be built in the future, by private companies,as has been done with the M6 toll road. that is a whole different thing to privatising the uk road networks.
btw, i,m not a conservtive craig, i just listen to ALL the speech, not just the bits i want to hear

There is, and moving the bottle necks from one place to another place seems to be answer.

    What a load of tosh!
It should be business transport roads & separate private roads.
And as the use and costs are different for each road user then so should the costs.

Business transport should be transferred to the rail network.

The rail network need a kick up the backside to respond the logistical needs of this country.
Roads can't cope with the traffic any-more.

But why should that put a spoke in our wheels while we travel the country?

I notice he's now talking up the idea of an airport on the Kent side of the Thames estuary - Boris Island - which only a few months back he said would never ever happen...
