Gesso is a white or black liquid used to prepare a canvas for painting, I believe it is the same for oil or acrylic paint, but I don't know for sure. It is possible to stretch your own canvas over a frame which I do most of the time. The gesso shrinks up the fabric and gives you a tight fit as well as giving you a white background to start out with. I have not used the black gesso but it would be a very nice thing if you planned a picture with a dark background - like night or jungle. Anyway gesso will also cover any previous painting on a canvas. Glad to be helpful.
I love the quiet that occurs when there is snow on the ground, it doesn't last long. As my Dad used to say "Snow is nice until some fool stomps on it." LOL!
