Deleting listings that don't conform to eBid guidelines

I think a lot depends on what the listing violation is,
some listings are removed because of things that CAN be edited,
wrong category, offsite links etc.
For violations like that, an easy way to edit & repost
makes sense.
Others, are removed because they are banned, ie fakes, firearms, knives, R18 DVD's,
there would be little point in placing listings like those in an area to enable them to be reposted.

You are so right. Things that are completely banned or that may get us all in trouble should not be relisted. I would think this could be part of the explanation.

That would only be true if listings were never reported or removed in error. I can see every point in putting a "knife" auction into a fixable pot if it's for an "eight bladed cooling fan" for example. I suggested a sin bin idea for holding dodgy auctions last year, but it doesn't seem to have been picked up on by management yet.

On the contrary, there would still be a point. It would educate the seller about the rules.

If you'd said certain auctions in the 'Auctions in violation' area would not be repostable, fine.

I think the idea that started this thread is an excellent one, I hope it's implemented.

I wish that a test for duplicate items could be made when you try to list an item, rather than the naughty boy note that comes to tell you that you listed a duplicate item.

Better if it never gets as fars as the sin bin.

I have 2500 items listed and I can't remember all of them, so it is easy to make mistakes!

I have fallen foul to the rules regarding the listing of duplicate items in the past. I have around 10 packs of 3 Calvin Klein socks, all slightly different. But how many different ways are there to describe socks? The longer title & description helps, but maybe a little more either common sense or an improvement to the algorithm (if there is one),would prevent listings like this being removed. There are different photographs and descriptions in the listings, so are clearly not duplicates, but have been removed previously.

To a computer a single character or whitespace would make a description different, and a single pixel difference would make an image different. To determine if descriptions or images really are different, someone would have to view each and every one and make a decision. That is clearly impractical.
