British and American names for things should be interchangable

I think the Americans should start to use proper English words and spellings.
It would make it easier for us all.

That's definitely the one I was thinking of, thanks! I expect it can be expanded to cover synonyms as well.

I wouldn't call it hopeless, but certainly pretty mammoth. But it's something they can build-up gradually, adding a few terms each day. Be a shame to admit defeat instantly.

My experience of living in UK and working in USA is that it is best NOT to make terms interchangeable on search, because eventually confusion ensues.

Someone commented that a bobbin is not exactly a spool, and it is better to keep terms accurate for good searching.

If I wanted someone searching for cotton reels also to find bobbins and spools, I would put the words, additionally, in the description

Hey I will not lend anyone a rubber. They can have it. There is no need to return it. Recycling is great but lets not go to far.

You might not want to tell an American male to "Knock you up in the morning". If that's the custom some of us might give it a shot. Hey when in Rome;-P
