What does Christmas mean to you?

Christmas, to me, is about HOPE, PEACE and LOVE, and how to best express it to the people I love, and the people I don't know. It's about the hope we have been given, whatever our religion, or lack thereof....it's about the peace we all long for in various disguises,.....and it's about the love we all need and want and enjoy sharing.

Theres only one answer Without the birth of Jesus Christ, we wouldnt have this season at all. He came to reconcile us back to God through His death on the cross. I am eternally grateful for that. In a Godless society its difficult to see that it is only through the shed blood of Christ that we have hope. He loves us that much and I am often overwhelmed that, as a sinner, He showed us that much mercy. I dont relish the idea of Christmas for a range of reasons, but this is the meaning for me. I think you'll find that people were celebrating all manner of festivals here long before Jesus was born.

Just about everything that a lot of people associate with Christmas is pagan.

I am an atheist with an affinity with all things pagan and don't celebrate Christmas. This doesn't stop me getting out all winter and doing what I can to help out my neighbours...this isn't really a Christmas thing for me...more of a community thing.

Thanks for 'bolding' the bit about helping neighbours (in my post)...I only added that bit in relation to Christmas because this is a Christmas thread. I do more of this when the weather is colder because I would probably look daft asking if people are warm enough in the middle of summer

Jesus existed before the foundations of the world. Jesus (The Word) was in the beginning.....the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (Emanuel- God With Us)....hence the birth of Jesus the Christ. All things were made by Him. (John 1:1-14)


He created every thing used to celebrate all known festivals, pagan or Christian.
