    The bid column is not fixed on eBay.com, it is only an optional feature.

    I apologise for stretching the screen but I wanted to make sure you can see the screen prints are from ebay.com

    @jewels,

    I don't know too many buyers on ebay that search the way you do. They just put in their item and hit search. I did this for vintage lighter and got this. As you can see there is a bid column. I did not copy the whole page but the ones on it that did not have bids had 0 bids. A bid column makes items stand out and makes other potential buyers look at items. Ebid needs a bid column if they ever wish to have bidding wars on this site. It would be good for the sellers and good for the bottom line on ebid profits.

    The way one gets bidding wars is by having lots of bidders. The way you get lots of bidders is by being the market leader, the name everyone knows, the name that's even used casually by talk-show hosts and comedians, by having incredibly good search facilities, by having so many auctions that all the punters go there automatically, and by spending a huge amount on advertising. That way you get so many bidders you can even afford to **** off sellers by having one of the most rubbish customer service operations on the planet. You also increase the chances of getting bidding wars when there's so much competition that many sellers list with low starting prices, something that no sane seller on eBid does (though there seem to be a lot of insane sellers on eBid that actually list starting prices well above BIN prices on the other site).

    You don't get bidding wars merely by showing number of bids, in the absence of other factors. If you think you do then you probably believe the sun rises as a result of vocal activity by cockerels.

    Well said
    And as we all know our membership is 1/100th that of the market leader so the bids should be same (statistically)
    And our traffic has been going down for the last 4 months.
    And our listings have been bouncing around on just under 4 million for those last 4 months,

    Hi Julie, where are your listings? Are you treading other waters? Haven't seen you around the forums as much. Hope all is well.

    What a coincidence, after posting a comment here, I returned to "My eBid" and I could see I had a bid. That without a bid column.

    You have absolutely no idea how I (or anyone else) searches for stuff, not that it matters one iota. The searches were set to show that eBay do not consider the bid column to be an integral part of running online auctions. The bid column is offered as an option, only.

    You really must stop assuming that everybody thinks like you do. It's a good title and photo with a reasonable price that makes me look at an item. A lot of bid activity will actually put me off and make me look for another, similar item.

    EBid need auctions listed with starting prices a lot lower than market value, a heck of a lot more traffic and an upturn in the economy if they wish to have bidding wars.

    And you keep on with this mantra in the face of evidence to the contrary.

    I agree 100% with this. That is exactly what I do as well. The other thing I have noticed when I list my items on the other side is that most of the bidding on my items take place in the last couple of minutes before the auction ends so for most of the 7 days I have the item listed it will show as 0 bids - the item still gets found by people who want to bid on it and still gets sold.

    Well thanks for the lesson regarding how auctions work in the UK. I appreciate the history lesson. I have changed my auctions to reflect how auctions run in the U.S. Good luck in all your sales.
