Something's got to give soon.
What I don't get is ;
'if the whole world is in debt, who are we in debt to?'
The only logical explanation is that multinational corporations and banks have have a gun to our head and made us all those 99% able to work either unemployed or wage slaves.
Greed is responsible for most of this.
Keep hearing people moan about the effects of the recession
BUT
Everyone I know still went abroad for their holidays this year
The city centre pubs and clubs are packed as usual at the weekends
The drug dealer round the corner seems to be as busy as usual
I've sold more so far this year than last year
My son has just had to take on another employee to cope with the increase in his work
The firm my dil works for has sold more helicopter flights this year than any previous year
No doubt the recession is hurting some but it seems to me that a lot of people are just jumping on the bandwagon and using it as an excuse.
My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else
I'm more or less in the same boat. Well, apart from not liking plum pud and having a mortgage which is too big - but it's not the banks fault that I chose to buy a ridiculous house.
From my own perspective, I keep hearing friends and neighbours and workmates talking about how skint they all are, and how the banks are ripping everyone off and they have to work for a pittance. But they all have the full Sky TV package, and the best mobile phones, and a new car and they take the foreign holiday (or two) every year.
I'm all for cracking down on greed. But lots of folk need to look a lot closer to home than the banks and big business.
Double helpings of sticky toffee pudding would go down a treat though.![]()

The banks were guilty and other institutions were guilty of giving out inappropriate loans etc just to get the commission.
This is the greed I'm talking about 'Corporate Greed'!
They fed the massive housing boom worldwide and when the speculation bubble burst they ran for cover.
I have known people on benefits being offered and getting credit cards with over £1000 limits. People on benefits have no hope of servicing such debt.
Credit was being offered to every man and his dog!
It was a totally irresponsible attitude by greedy institutions that has wrought this havoc we are in.
It's biting hard in the USA today, it will be biting us hard before the year is out!

That's fair enough, corporate greed was a major underlying fact. But the point still stands that the people on the benefits didn't have to take those credit cards. No one forced them to accept the credit card and then spend to the limit.
It isn't the bank's fault that the loan/credit card recipient spent money that they didn't have and that they had no hope of repaying. The personal greed was just as much an issue as the corporate greed.
And the housing boom too, what caused that? People wanted to buy a house that they couldn't really afford, and the people selling it wanted a price that was way above it's actual value. Another two counts of personal greed.
The banks and big business aren't exactly innocent, but they're not 100% responsible either.
