Default ideas please - fundraising talent shows???

Just want to throw an idea out there, and see what peoples thoughts are.

Thanks to the the recession and lack of arts funding and all that, is getting us looking at more fundraising ideas . This one has prompted a lot of discussion within our committee, and we arent sure which way to proceed with it.

Basically, we thought of running a talent show. The thing is, a lot of the big ones in the area can offer things like paid theatre contracts, something that as a non-profit community group, we havent a chance of; but my thought was that instead of that, we could charge a small fee to enter which would possibly cover a nice promo photo, for each entrant (we have a couple of people trained as professional photographers on side), and contribute to a pot of prize money for the winner, .

But what do you guys think would be a feasable way of running this idea? And other ideas?

I think if you can't compete with the big guys you're better off not trying, which doesn't mean give up - just pitch your own event at a different level / market. Make it a fun, family thing. Not too serious. Everybody has a laugh and nobody minds if the prize is a bottle of wine and a wooden spoon for the worst act.

totally agreed, this is my stance on it, the others on the committee think, though, that people would "expect" it to compete with the big ones.

We have "talent" show in our local pub

    It's billed as "Crapaoke".....lol

Tis an absolute hoot, and no-one minds if they make complete idiots of themselves in the process.

Tip: folk tend to be more generous with their cash.....when they've had a few drinks.

Best wishes for many sales to all,
