Gazza, barcode on old comics being rejected.

I've just started to list a few old comics, only 3 have barcodes, but the listing form will not accept them.

Think you'll find that the 0 and the 03 or 08 have to be included as well to make up the 13 digits required - have found this anomaly with a few old books lately.

No that doesn't work either.
I tried the 10 digit, the first 0 plus 10 digit, the 10 digit plus the 08, and the 0 plus 10digit plus the 08, & all were rejected.

I got my magazine store exempted anyway, but I do try & put in a code if the item has one.

With books if it won't accept the 10 digit, I usually seach online to find the 13 digit one.

A quick scan around the web would indicate that comics are a bit of an oddity. The same comic can be issued with or without a barcode - depending on where it is to be sold. If distributed to a retail store (e.g. Walmart) they have the barcode, if distributed to newsagents then they don't have them; the space the barcode would occupy being filled with a graphic.

Maybe to keep the distributors happy some publishers just made them up rather than paying to get valid barcodes?
