Default LibreOffice looks like the new OpenOffice

OpenOffice, the opensource (free) suite which is mentioned in Ebidloader as an alternative to Microsoft Excel, was taken over by Oracle, and then given to Apache in 2010.
The techies behind the OpenOffice open source started their own, LibreOffice, and now that is developing and leaving OpenOffice behind.
It is probably that point in time when those who use OpenOffice might consider switching to what is becoming the new default for opensource office software.

Yes, Libre Office is the way to go. It's very sad the way Oracle screwed up that project and several others too, when they bought Sun. They just don't get the idea of open source. Of course, one of the good things about open source is that, when someone tries to do unpopular things with the project and take ownership of it, the developers can fork the project and move on successfully. Which is what happened with Open Office.

Libre Office is not only free, as in 0 cost, infinitely better value than MS Office, but, more important, your data is free, as in freedom. The way your data is stored is known, and all the program code that manipulates it is known, so you'll not be lumbered with finding one day you can no longer read your own documents. You think that's hypothetical? No, I know people who used proprietary programs in the mid-90's and can no longer access their own files, because the company who wrote the software kept the formats secret and either went out of business or didn't offer compatible upgrades that would run on later versions such as W2000 or XP.

I've been using OpenOffice for years and then when it forked, went to LibreOffice.
    Actually used StarOffice before that.
